Is your computer running Windows Vista Home Basic?
Does it have 512MB of RAM installed?
If yes to both questions, then adding 2048MB of RAM will _definitely_ speed-up your computer.
See:
http://www.pcmemorystore.com/Acer-Aspire-3050%5E1733-ram.htm where you can buy 2GB (2048MB) of DDR2-4200 RAM for $38 US.
The usual cause for a "slow" computer is too-many programs running at the same time (not too many programs installed onto the disk-drive) competing for too-small amount of RAM.
Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power-cord.
Flip the computer over.
Remove the battery.
Remove the screws over the memory cover (at the centre of the bottom).
You'll either see a stick of RAM, or an empty slot for RAM.
Remove any existing RAM, and insert the new stick of RAM.
Replace the cover.
Insert the battery.
Connect the AC power.
Boot it up, and it will run _MUCH_ faster.
