Maybe my memory is going but I thought when I tried the camera in the store the red box stayed lit until you took the picture. When I got my camera home the box flashes for a split second and goes off. Is this normal? also sometimes two boxes flash is this also correct?
It could be that your lighting situation inside is darker than in the store. Since the Pentax *st DL does not have an anti-shake sensor like other new cameras, it could be telling you that the low level light will not support the aperture setting you have to acuratley stay focused. Try using a tripod and a lower aperture setting.

Remove the lens and clean the contacts on the camera body and the lens where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol. Re-attach the lens and make sure the ring (if you have one) is set to "A".
The early ist cameras had a battery indicator problem which Pentax never addressed. Most owners learned to live with it by turning it off and on several times until it showed full power.
It seems to be a connection issue between the Lens and the Camera body.
Perhaps the mount is not true to the body

Looks like its true... Another major disadvantage. Removing TTL means removing one more hardware piece - TTL sensor. Pentax removed almost every nice feature, which needs some aditional or more expensive hardware: no TTL flash, less AF points, pentamirror... Seems like I bought Ds right in time.
