I am running Windows ME on my computer. When I connected my *ist d to the computer for the first time, Windows found the camera and installed a USB mass storage device driver. Although the driver was installed I can't upload the photos.
Windows System shows the driver installed, but the storage device doesn't show up as new drive when I go to "MY Computer" or in Windows explorer.
I've installed and reinstalled the driver several times, but no luck.
The little icon on the bottom right side of the screen shows the device installed, and when I try to shut off the cmera before stopping it, I get a nasty little message saying I shouldn't do that. So windows does recognize the camera, but doesn't let me see or upload the photos.
Can some one out there help or offer a suggestion?

I solved that problem with a strange method. I have a zip drive and an external hard drive which I only turn on once or twice a month. I found that if I boot-up with these two devices turned on, the camera is recognized as another drive when I turn it on, and I can upload the photos.
If I boot-up with these two devices not turned on, no drive letter is assigned to the camera, and I can't upload my photos.

Not sure if it's relevent, but every time I connect my camera to my PC (running XP Pro), the camera says "Battery Deleted" and shuts down. The drive shows for a second or two then disappears from windows.
Only occurs when the battery pack is attached to the camera. Without the battery pack it's fine.

Used that OS for about 6 months before dumping it. Not my favorite to say the least. Then again that was a long time ago. Would help to know who's USB chip

Is there anything to make you think you should be able to? I took a quick look at the manual and didn't find anything to imply that. Many cameras when connected to a computer serve only as a fancy card reader, allowing you to download pictures, and not as a camera that can take more pictures.
If you see anything in the manual, please point it out to me. In the meantime, what operating system are you running on your computer? Are you using any software on the computer for remote operation of the camera?
NO! Formatting the disk will remove all of the pictures from it.
First make sure that you can view your pictures using the camera.
If you can, then the problem lies between the camera and computer.
I have found the best method of transferring is to connect to the computer with the USB lead, and drag and drop the files from the camera to a folder in the computer.
you should have a USB cord with you camera just hook it up and use your install wizard to get the proper software off the internet (make sure your connected to the internet while doing so) and you should be able to transfer photos from your camera to your computer
W7 has windows media center. In it you find TV. That will run the teac stick. done it - works.
ist get a usb cable and u get a cd with it...install the cd in the comp......the connect the phone and pc using the cable.......u can get internetaccess ,copy the contacts, messages etc from ur phone.even u can transfer musics to ur phone from pc
I've used Sandisk Ultra II 512M cards, a PQI 1G and a Transcend 1G card (all high speed rated) in the *istDS. I've done about 1500 exposures now, many RAW, and have done several rounds of upload to my computer. No problems at all. These same cards work flawlessly in a Panasonic FZ10 as well.
Either you have had a bit of bad luck, two defective SD cards in a row, or have a *istDS with a stuck or bad memory card controller. Try using the Reset command in the Set Up Menu, see if that helps.
BTW, always format SD cards with the camera once before you start using them.
