I don't understand your question.
Normally a device (your floppy drive) is not operated by an application (Word 2010), rather, the device is operated by your operating system. I presume your operating system is some version of Windows and I presume your floppy is a USB device. That being the case, when you attach your floppy to your computer, the operating system identifies it as a resource. When you open your application (Word 2010), one of the 'save' options should be your floppy drive. If that drive doesn't show up directly, you may select it from a list of devices offered by Windows through save window that appears when you click SAVE..
The direct answer to your quesiton is ... there should be no reason to think the drive can not be used with the application. You can save (a document) to any device that is available to your computers operating system, even those shared through other computers on your network.
