Im having a problem with my new camera.Sometimes I will be cycling through some pictures I just took, and I can see them fine, then all of a sudden,my lcd goes blank and I get a message,"camera can not display image".Then all the pics I already looked at say this. Now,if I turn the camera off, fine.I turn it on,and it usually works fine again, but if I leave it on,then take 1 more pic,the red and green light by the optical viewfinder blinks back and forth, red, green, red, etc.and none of the buttons work, and the lights blink endlessly. The lcd is still working;no buttons work at all,and the only way to shut off the camera is to open the battery compartment, remove the batteries and reinstall them;then the camera usually works??
This often indicates a card error. Transfer all your images then format the card in the camera.
If you still have the problem, try a different card.
If you still have the problem then looks like you will have to send it in for repair.

My 33LF won't work with even a 1gb Memory Card. It freezez up as you describe. So far it seems happy enough with 512mb cards. A camera shop operator told me that the capacity of the card exceeds the capacity of the camera and it seems he was right.
According to the Pentax web site, there is no firmware update available for the 33LF camera. As far as your pics are concerned, you can use a card reader to download them to your computer. Then, you can format the card in the camera and everything should be ok.
This camera supports only 512 mb sd card. If you use any bigger, it freezes. Tried with 1 gb and 2 gb and freezes, while 512 is just fine for the size of the pics of this baby.
Try removing the card and see if it will turn on with just the internal memory--or try different memory card if you have one.
Had a somewhat similar problem with a new 1GB card when I shut camera off while it was still saving an image. Camera would come on, take a picture all by itself and freeze up. After using a couple of other cards it magically worked on the bad card

I have a pentax optio 33lf, and indeed it has video, but with no sound. I have no idea why they chose not to build a mic in the camera bat the fact is thet it films, but with no sound. so don't even bother trying to find a solution because ther is none
My Optio 33LF gave the same "card not formatted" message and then shut down completely at a family party. I took it to the Pentax Canada depot which is nearby and the technician said the main circuit board was gone. A C$130 part + labour estimate = time for a new camera !
Optio 33LF Firmware Upgrade Information & Instructions:
This firmware corrects "camera freezing & cannot display images" issues with Sandisk & Black's 128MB & 256MB Secure Digital Cards. This problem is occurred because Sandisk changed the manufacturing location from the Philippine's to China during production of the Optio 33LF. They also change the electronic chip used the SD Card which caused a compatibility problems with Pentax, Minolta, Palm and other digital device manufacturers. In turn this also caused a problem with Black's SD Cards as they are manufactured by Sandisk. Therefore, we had to release a Firmware Upgrade for the Optio 33LF to correct compatibility issues with these SD Cards.
