I already wrote disc but how to overwrite a disc

On a CD-R, if you don't finalize or write protect the disk, can you overwrite a file?

Or in overwriting are you simply creating a second file of the same name in the TOC/directory and deleting the name, only, of the first file

You can add more data if there is space on the DVD+R, but you can't overwrite it.

You see, when a disc is burned, little microscopic ridges are put onto the disc. This is your data.

You cannot overwrite this data.

It's kind of like trying to use a permanent marker on the same spot of paper twice.

CD-ROM

Known as a read-only disc, usually used to store commercial programs and data. You can't add or delete information on a CD-ROM.

650 megabytes (MB)

Highly compatible with most computers and devices.

CD-R

You can burn files to a CD-R more than once (each time is referred to as a session), but you can't delete files from the disc. Each burn is permanent.

650 MB and 700 MB

You must close the session to read this disc in a different computer. Highly compatible with most computers and devices.

CD-RW

You can burn files to a CD-RW more than once. You can also delete unwanted files from the disc to reclaim space and add additional files. A CD-RW can be burned and erased many times.

Compatible with many computers and devices.

I have an Acer Extensa 4620Z and I am trying to burn a cd from itunes and am having much difficulty doing so. When I click to burn, it begins to start for about 1 second and then stops with the message:...

The problem with iTunes is that it uses its own/modifies the disc drive driver. What you can try is uninstall iTunes and performing what is called the Upper/Lower Filter Fix. This involves hitting "Start" and then selecting "Run" from the start menu. If that isn't in the Start menu, you can hold the Windows Key and hit 'R'. When the Run dialog box opens, type "regedit" in the box and click "OK" or "Run". This will open the Registry Editor window. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SYSTEM, then CurrentControlSet, then Control, then Class. This should reveal a bunch of items with seemingly random characters in their name. Select the top most and arrow down until the item at the top in the right-side column says DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Below that, you should see two potential keys, LowerFilters and UpperFilters. Right-click on these and select Delete. Then, restart, and reinstall iTunes. It should correct the issue.

MY PC has sony DVD-ROM DDU1615 that I can't record my videos onto a dvd

you cant burn a disk with a dvd rom
you will need both a dvd rw unit and a dvd rw disk to burn any video to a disk if you have both of these the burning program might not support video burning or you might not have selected the right option there are lots of free burning software programs that can burn videos to a disk you might have to burn it as an ISO image
http://www.majorgeeks.com/BurnAware_Free_d5839.html
BurnAware Free is one of the most popular free CD, DVD, Blu-ray Disc burning software available for Windows.
Using this program you can easily create and burn Audio and MP3 CD, Data and DVD-Video disc, ISO and Cue Image,

My dvdrom drive wont let me access the drive

ITs a dvd rom drive. It will not burn blank dvds
in order to burn, it has to cd-r/cd-rw/dvd-r/dvd-rw. If a drive cannot write to a blank disc, it will eject it. Rom drives read only (Read Only Memory), Combo drives- burn cd's only read dvd's, and super drives both read and write to cds and dvds.

    Dvd-rom trouble

Hi, first of all, I'd check if you have the problem with CD/DVDs burned (written on a CD/DVD writer) or you have it also with original CD/DVDs, which would be weird. Depending on your finding to the above point I'd do one thing or another, but to me does not look like a driver problem. I'd check with Toshiba support if there's a new firmware for your drive, this does improve the media the device can read and correct problems like the one you mention. To know the fimware version you're using, open device manager and go find your drive, right click on it and choose details tab. Normally the firmware revision is the number at the end of the instance. Good luck mate !
