If I'm running Vista, I'm not going to be able to transfer the data am I ??? Need to find an older computer to make the exchange? Thanks for any guidance.
Vista shouldn't prevent you from transfering data to a TASCAM Portastudio. The instruction manual shows how to connect the Portastudio to a computer using a cable. The instruction manual can be found on the internet and is called ps5_ref.pdf
If you have a CF card reader you can put the card in that and it will show up in vista as removeable disk. You then use Explorer (windows file Explorer, not the browser Explorer - who knows what fool at Microsoft gave the same name to two different programs) as normal to move the files FXPATCH.PKT, PATTERN.001, and SYSINFO.PKT onto the CF card. You use the same method to transfer your recordings and MP3 files from the Portastudio to the computer if you want to. Just remember to stick to the 8.3 naming convention - that's up to eight letters, a full stop, and three letter extension such as .MP3

Unfortunately the Windows OS has changed significantly since that software was released. Nova Developement now has the Greeting Card Factory Deluxe version 8 for XP/Vista/7.
If you have the 64-bit Vista, you may not be able to get the old software to work and need the upgrade or a virtual computer with an older Windows OS (see below). To check your OS version, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System .
You can try running the program in the compatibility mode - this will work best with software for XP not Win95-NT. Right click on the installer and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and choose Run this program as compatible with (an older version of Windows). Click on the check box and use the drop-down menu to select the older OS. Save the change by clicking apply then close the window. Right click again on the installer and choose Run as Administrator.
If the program installs, do the same compatibility steps for the program's exe file itself. (You don't need to run as administrator though.)
Alternatively, you can run a dual boot or virtual computer with an older Windows OS. (Programs like Virtual PC, Parallels and VMWare let you run a virtual computer inside the Vista system with a computer that can handle virtualization.) Unfortunately, you usually need a licensed version of Windows to do this. (Win7 Pro and Ultimate let you do this free with Virtual PC and XP mode.) Then install the software normally in the virtual computer or when booted into the older version of Windows. File transfer can be tricky with the virtual computer - you need to save files to external media (flash drive or optical disc). Printers can't be installed on both the real and virtual computer at the same time.
Older palm products and vista aren't compatible. You either needs to transfer info via bluetooth or upgrade your palm if you wish to continue using vista. As far as transferring, possibly a memory card.
I had that game - it was a really great one! I have seen that error before, and I have some suggestions to help you out.
1.) Check the disc surface for deep scratches - The error code you are getting is the result of the program (setup) trying to copy data and not being able to complete a file transfer. Rather than giving you options to omit the file or skip it, the setup errors out and your stuck with nothing.
2.) If the Disc Is Not Damaged - Check what operating system you are running. Vista Home has issues with how it handles data moving from the CD drive to the Hard Drive. Sometimes it will interpret this data incorrectly - leading to games and such being incompatable with Vista. This software should run smoothly on: (Windows XP Home/Pro and Ubuntu Hardy with Wine Installed)
3.) If All Else Fails - Check out Amazon.com or another retailer for a cheap price on that title. Its an older title and I am sure if anyone has it they won't want much for it.

Hello tasbones and razzledog !I expect the following will help you solving the problems with the pattern file of pocketstudio5 (TASCAM):You need the original CD-ROM which includes the pattern file with many different drums and sound stuff. You have to put these data on a formatted cf-card (everytime again if you will use a new card) !This info comes from a german musician who had the same problem 5 years ago.Try the following Link of TASCAM where you can download the manual, an update and the PATTERN FILE !www.tascam.de --> "Support" --> "download" --> "nicht mehr hergestellte Produkte" --> "pocketstudio5"If this will not work, give me a sign - I will try to send the data to you via mail.freewood/Berlin, Germany
