I have a Toshiba e740 model no. PA3170U-3P05.
The Toshiba works fine and is a great PDA. The problem is that it loses all of the data if left for a couple of days. I've got the main battery taped into the body to ensure that it does not work lose.
Is this a problem with some internal battery?
Is this a problem with the main LiIon battery?
Some other fault?
How do I find out what market i.e. US or EU/Uk this machine was made for?

Re: Battery problem?
The problem is based on the backup battery and the Battery charging Electronic of the Pda.
The only chance for you is to contact a Toshiba Service Partner for a repair of the Pocket PC.
The Mainboard of the PDA has to be replaced.

Try going to the website of your Operating System (ie, Windows, Mac, ect). I've only used Windows , butsee if you can download the Activesync software that you need there. The e740 was only available with Windows Pocket PC 2002, and will appearantly not sync to Vista PCs, however.
I will try to check back in a day or two, so let me know if this is of any help to you.
Hi
This may help you ::
Select , Settings, System tab, Align Screen to adjust the touch screen. If the screen alignment loses calibration it may not be possible to adjust alignment using the above method.
Also, here is a link that may help ::

Hi,
I noticed that the firmware that you have is not the latest, the last provided was 1.0623.049 which was released a few years ago.
I would install this, in addition to the other patches from the Toshiba web site. Hopefully this will overwrite any software quirks for you.
regards, Keith
Is there a freezing problem if the PDA is on cradle? I am not sure but it can be battery problem. I don’t know how old is your PDA but you should contact service partner and let them check the unit.
The Toshiba Pocket PC's e310, e330 and e740 are designed to work together with Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Millennium, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Microsoft Windows NT4.0 is an older operating system, which does not work together with the Toshiba Pocket PC's e310,e330 and e740.
Technical background:
The Toshiba Pocket PC's have a USB and a Infrared interface to communicate with a Computer. Unfortunately, Microsoft Windows NT4.0 does not support USB nor Infrared. Windows NT supports a serial connection, but the serial interface is not available for the Pocket PC's e310,e330 and e740.
Note:
There is the possibility to synchronize a PDA over Network or Modem but the ActiveSync Software, which is responsible for the synchronization, will need a "first sync" to establish a "partnership" with the PDA. This "first sync" can only be done via USB.
