I bought a Pentax Option 555 a few months ago. Everything was fine until one day when I turned on the camera, the Optio startup screen was not showing, and the LCD was black, the lens started ok though. I was able to select menu, and review the pictures that I stored, but at the ready-to-shot mode, the LCD screen is still black, with brakets on the screen at four corner, when I tried to take pictures, the picture was black of course. I couldn't figure out why it's like this. I tired to turn off and turn on many times, but this black LCD screen never go away. Did I set the setting wrong? Like didn't turn on the LCD somewhere(but I didn't touch that option)? Or something like the shutter is broke? I am frustrated. And look forward to hearing some advices. Thanks a lot.
The LCD can be turned off simply by pressing the display button when in picture taking mode. It has 5 different states, one of which is completely black. Try cycling the display button.

No I don't believe it is your shutter, more than likely it is a LCD Screen problem. I would suggest you take your camera back to the shop where you purchased the camera and have it serviced under warranty. I had a customer with an Optio 550 come in and it looked like every shot was taken through 'venetian blinds' and the problem was with the LCD Screen and the camera was sent back to Pentax and repaired under warranty.
