I upgraded my gategay gt-5428 computer memory 1 gb to 2 gb but still runs with i gb, what i did wrong?

Hello Erik,

Are you absolutely certain that the new module is compatible with your system? Go into the BIOS and see if it is recognized there.

Crucial shows that your computer takes DDR2 memory with support for DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400 speeds.

Make sure it is not ECC memory. ECC is not compatible.

If you are sure of the compatibility, I would try to install the old one by itself first and make sure the system boots. Then I would remove the old one and install the new one by itself. Try booting. If it doesn't work, you may have gotten a bad module. (It happens.)

Just FYI, here is the crucial link for your computer:

Hi I have Foxccon P4M8007MB m.board which had 1Gb memory ( 2 X 512MB) I have just purchased Kingston Value memory 2 X 1Gb) KVR533D2N4/1G But the system only reads these as 2 x 512MB showing only 1GB. I...

Hi. I'm not sure why your system board only reports 1 gb, it supports 2 gb of memory.

The only thing I can think of is it is the wrong TYPE of ddr ram.

Your motherboard only supports pc3200 and pc4300 ddr2 ram, and it must be unbuffered.
I
t's either that, or you have somehow gotten mismatched memory form Kingston...i.e. one was unbuffered and the other module was a buffered one.

I hope you get it going properly, because that is a great motherboard, with SERIOUS performance built in.
It is one of the few motherboards built to be overclocked. The only upgrade you should need is a video card, I know you have one built in, But an external video card takes the graphics load off of the processor and lets the video card due those functions, resulting in a way smoother and faster overall computer.

RAM NOT DETECTING

I had the same issue on this board where it came with a Samsung 512 MB 533 MHz PC2-4200 DDR2 DIMM. I put in a 1 GB Kingston with the same specs (533 MHz PC2-4200 DDR2) and it would not recongize the Samsung anymore with the system reading as 1 GB of RAM instead of 1.5 GB. Tried every configuration and would only see the Kingston. It would only see the Samsung if I pulled out the Kingston regarless of the slots I use. So, I just bought the exact same make/model of Kingston and it recognized that fine and the system now has 2 GB of memory (max this board allows). And, I had already installed the latest BIOS for this board from Intel before doing all this so wasn't an old BIOS. I'm figuring the board didn't like something about the Samsung memory (speed, module configuration, etc.) that made it not play nice with the Kingston. If interested I bought the DM8400A/1G Kingston modules. And, this board appears not to support dual channel memory. Only has channel A, slots 0 and 1, and I read need two channels to support dual channel (seems obvious). Boards that supports dual channel memory normally have 4 memory slots, two for channel A and two for channel B, then put in matching modules in slot 0 for channel A and B and have dual channel memory access. And if want more ram, then matching modules in slot 1 for channel A and B.

Additional ram

yes there might be a problem you will encounter, first, if you purchase with wrong specifications, 2nd you should be ready with the erros that will appear like the memory dumping and so on, 3rd are you familiar with the location. if you will purchase you should remove and present your existing ram so that this will be their reference with the specifications
