  1. Turn off the camera and plug the small end of the provided USB cable into the camera and the other into your PC's USB port.
  2. Turn it on.
  3. After a minute your computer should recognize the device.
  4. The device should appear either on your desktop or my computer.
  5. Double-click on the device.
  6. Double-click the DCIM folder.
  7. Now you should be able to copy any pics you want onto your computer.

How to connect Nikon Coolpix 3100 Digital Camera with my pc

Do you REALLY want to connect your camera to your computer?

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa or Nikon Transfer.

Nikon Coolpix S52C camera transfer pictures problem.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Coolpix 4300 needs driver & update for vista

You can download PictureProject software from this address: http://chsv-soft.nikon-image.com/jpn/software/win/S-P2____-175WU-JPNJP.exe

That is the only Nikon software that supports Vista since your camera is "outdated".

Here is a quote from Nikon site:

  • We had released a Windows Vista-compatible version of PictureProject, v1.7.5, for use with the models listed below, and all models that followed. PTP (models supporting the PTP protocol) and Mass storage USB transfer options can be used for camera connection. However, the camera's transfer button can not be used to transfer pictures over a PTP connection. Set the USB transfer option to Mass storage to enable the camera's transfer button.
Currently, the new Nikon Transfer and View NX will replace Picture Project as our new Image Transfer and Browser applications. These applications support the same Nikon products as Picture Project.
COOLPIX P4, COOLPIX P3, COOLPIX P2, COOLPIX P1,COOLPIX S10, COOLPIX S9, COOLPIX S8, COOLPIX S7c, COOLPIX S7, COOLPIX S6, COOLPIX S5, COOLPIX S4, COOLPIX S3, COOLPIX S2, COOLPIX S1,COOLPIX L6, COOLPIX L5, COOLPIX L4, COOLPIX L3, COOLPIX L2, COOLPIX L1/L101,COOLPIX SQ, COOLPIX 8800, COOLPIX 8700, COOLPIX 8400, COOLPIX 7900, COOLPIX 7600,COOLPIX 5900, COOLPIX 5700, COOLPIX 5600, COOLPIX 5400, COOLPIX 5200, (COOLPIX 5100), COOLPIX 5000, COOLPIX 4800, (COOLPIX 4600), COOLPIX 4500, COOLPIX 4300, COOLPIX 4200, COOLPIX 4100, COOLPIX 3700, COOLPIX 3500, COOLPIX 3200, COOLPIX 3100, COOLPIX 2500, COOLPIX 2200, COOLPIX 2100, COOLPIX 2000,COOLPIX 995, COOLPIX 885, COOLPIX 775.We do not plan to offer compatibility for COOLPIX 990 OR COOLPIX 880 connection to a computer with Windows Vista preinstalled. Use a card reader or card slot to transfer images.

Nikon viewer

Yes, you can download it from the Nikon website. In the UK, you need to go to the customer services section, create and account or log in, the select your camera model, and then click the software tab. Nikon View 6.2.7 Full Version is in the list. I would imagine that the procedure is similar for other nikon worldwide sites, though I don't know if you need to log in at all of them.

Alternatively, you can go into the camera setup menu, and change the USB mode from PTP to Mass Storage (I think you can do this on the 3100). Then you can use windows to simply copy the pictures over.

Alternatively, use a card reader.

LCD blank & No picture taken

This appears to be a well known CCD problem, which Nikon acknowledges only for the COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ models. Nikon denies the CCD problems on the 5400 are related, even though a Google search for this problem returns numerous results which claim the same defective Sony CCD sensor was used in the 5400 as was used in the 3100, 5700, and SQ models.
