Question about Toshiba e740 Pocket PC

1 Answer

Wi-Fi I have an e740 with wi-fi, but have never been able to establish a wi-fi internet access connection. When I sit in the airport, the machine can see the wi-fi sites available, (I use the scan facility to find these) but I can never then get my machine to connect. I have followed all the steps in the users manual but my machine doesn't connect - internet explorer just says I need to change my connection settings, but these only give me access to modem dial-up settings as far as I can tell. I am sure there are a multitude of settings I need to adjust, but I just can't figure them out. In fact, I have a Belkin wireless system at home, and although the e740 can see the router, I can't figure out how to make it use the router to create an internet connection through my home broadband system. I am not a complete computer novice, but this is getting me down!

You will not believe me but I have a similar problem. I have also Belkin router at home and wireless connection with my e800 works perfect. A few days ago I have tried to connect my PDA to wireless router of my best friend. His wireless network is protected like mine and after configuration of all settings I had no success. The funny thing is that PDA show me the status CONNECTED but I can not use the internet explorer. Like I said, at home with my Belkin it works properly. I can really not explain what the problem is.

How do we get free internet on a pc?

Short answer: There is no free internet.

If you have a smart phone with an internet connection and wi-fi hotspot capability, you can use your phone as a tether device to connect using wi-fi. If your PC does not have wi-fi capability you will need to purchase either a USB wi-fi adapter or peripheral card for under $20. Make sure you have a data-plan on your phone that would support your usage.

Otherwise, you'll have to camp outside of a Starbucks or other establishment providing free wi-fi services.

What is wifi

Hi,
Wireless local area network is a local area network that uses high frequency radio signals to transmit and receive data over distances of a few hundred feet, uses ethernet protocol.

In simple word allow you to surf internet without any internet cable connection, Wi-Fi enabled device such as a personal computer, video game console, smartphone or digital audio player can connect to the Internet when within range of a wireless network connected to the Internet. The coverage of one or more (interconnected) access points called hotspots, can comprise an area as small as a few rooms or as large as many square miles. Coverage in the larger area may depend on a group of access points with overlapping coverage.

In addition to private use in homes and offices, Wi-Fi can provide public access at Wi-Fi hotspots provided either free-of-charge or to subscribers to various commercial services. Organizations and businesses - such as those running airports, hotels and restaurants - often provide free-use hotspots to attract or assist clients. Enthusiasts or authorities who wish to provide services or even to promote business in selected areas sometimes provide free Wi-Fi access.

Hi,

One cannot connect with wi fi with no password near the Airports or other places of high security. You need permission from the Owner of wi fi of that area. After getting permission to access the wi fi, you will be given a pass word.

Hope this will clear your doubt.

Thanks...

What is wi fi whats does it do

Hi,

Wi-Fi stands for wireless fidelity. The term Wi-Fi, which is alternatively pushed by the Wi-Fi Alliance, a trade group that pioneered commercialization of the technology. Wi-Fi is mostly about connecting to the Internet without physically attaching your computer to anything. Mostly it's about using laptop computers.

A Wi-Fi enabled device such as a personal computer, video game console, mobile phone, MP3 player or personal digital assistant can connect to the Internet when within range of a wireless network connected to the Internet. The coverage of one or more (interconnected) access points — called a hotspot — can comprise an area as small as a few rooms or as large as many square miles. Coverage in the larger area may depend on a group of access points with overlapping coverage. Wi-Fi technology has been used in wireless mesh networks, for example, in London.

Routers that incorporate a digital subscriber line modem or a cable modem and a Wi-Fi access point, often set up in homes and other premises, can provide Internet-access and internetworking to all devices connected (wirelessly or by cable) to them. One can also connect Wi-Fi devices in ad-hoc mode for client-to-client connections without a router. Wi-Fi also enables places that would traditionally not have network access to connect, for example bathrooms, kitchens and garden sheds.

Good luck and have a nice day.
rating the solution is highly appreciated.

WLAN orange light blinking

Wi-Fi base station: Understanding and resolving a blinking amber status light Your Wi-Fi base station status light blinks amber.
Here are some of the more common reasons that the status light may blink amber:
  • The Wi-Fi base station has not yet been configured because it is new.
  • The Wi-Fi base station has been reset.
  • A new firmware update is available for the Wi-Fi base station.
  • No IP address is available for the Wi-Fi base station.
  • A Wi-Fi base station in Extended Mode is out-of-network Wi-Fi range of a primary Wi-Fi base station.
  • The WAN Ethernet cable is unplugged from the Wi-Fi base station.
  • The Wi-Fi base station lacks a path to the Internet (or local router).
  • Internet access may be temporarily unavailable from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
  • Your AirPort Time Capsule has detected that the internal hard drive has reported a SMART error, and is failing (This requires firmware 7.5.2, and AirPort Utility 5.5.2).
A persistent, blinking, amber status light indicates that your Wi-Fi base station may require your attention.
How to resolve a blinking amber status light alert
Launch AirPort Utility to determine why your Wi-Fi base station status light is blinking amber.
Apple recommends that you use AirPort Utility 5.5.2 for Mac, AirPort Utility 5.5.2 for Windows, or a newer version of AirPort Utility if one is available.
  1. AirPort Utility 5.2 or later opens automatically if your Wi-Fi base station requires your attention. You may also choose to launch AirPort Utility at any time.
Do not use any version of AirPort Utility earlier than 5.0.
In Mac OS X, AirPort Utility is located in the Applications > Utilities folder.
In Microsoft Windows, AirPort Utility can be located by clicking Start > All Programs > AirPort.
Note: You may also locate and download the latest Wi-Fi base station firmware and software by clicking here.
  2. In the AirPort Utility window, locate your Wi-Fi base station and double-click on it to open the Summary window. Note: If you have more than one Wi-Fi base station, double-click on the icon for the Wi-Fi base station that has the amber circle next to it.
  3. When the Summary window appears, double-click the amber circle to the right of Wi-Fi base station Status to open the Status window.
  4. The Status window lists any conditions that require your attention. Respond to each item until there are no more items listed.
    Important
: You must reset the Wi-Fi base station using the reset switch to re-enable checking for the conditions you ignored.

  5. Eliminating the blinking, amber status light may require making changes to a specific setting, or putting a checkmark in the "Ignore" checkbox beside any option you don't wish to change. A checkmark simply tells the AirPort that you are aware of the issue and you have chosen to ignore it. For example, you may wish to leave your AirPort open without a password so that anyone can join your wireless network.
  6. Click Update to apply your changes (the Wi-Fi base station will restart).
  7. After the Wi-Fi base station has restarted, the status light should be green and not blinking. If the status light stays amber in color and blinks after the Wi-Fi base station restarts, you may repeat the steps above.
