I'm not sure if this is a fault, or a 'feature'...
When viewing pictures on the camera one at a time, when I get to the last picture and click as if to go to the next one, the camera shuts down. It does the same in the opposite direction.
I would expect the camera to either not do anything, as there is no next picture to display, or go back to the beginning, or end, again. But to shut down completely? Struck me as strange. My other cameras don't do it, but they're not Pentax models, so I wondered if it was a fault.

I'm sorry to inform you that the new cameras do not have the superimposing feature to add date and time on images automatically.
This is because many customers do not want that feature..
However, these cameras come with exit technology. The exit technology write the date and time information in the picture as meta data.
You can use an exif compatible software to add date and time on images.
You can also the supplied picture motion browser software to add date and time.
Please click on the below link to view the instructions to add date and time on images using the Picture Motion browser Software:

To see the picture you want to take on the screen, your camera needs to have a feature called "live view". I'm not sure if your camera has that feature. It's a relatively new feature on more expensive cameras. Check your owner's manual.
It doesn't sound like the problem is with the device itself. It sounds like you are trying to run the camera in two applications at the same time, or you are not closing down the previous application.
The camera may not have shut off the previous programme you were using. I/e if you have the photo capture feature on you will not be able to use the camera in Skype. Close down the camera windows, and then try skype.
try reseting the camera (check the manual for instructions) this sounds like an operating system issue which is just plain not fixable. Check in the SD card slot and look for dust or debris that may be irritating the works. let me know how it goes
With the camera on and in picture taking mode, hit the OK button. This button cycles the display through a number of modes, including one that is normally off (except when using the menu or view).
