Optio 33LF Firmware Upgrade Information & Instructions: This firmware corrects "camera freezing & cannot display images" issues with Sandisk & Black's 128MB & 256MB Secure Digital Cards. This problem is occurred because Sandisk changed the manufacturing location from the Philippine's to China during production of the Optio 33LF. They also change the electronic chip used the SD Card which caused a compatibility problems with Pentax, Minolta, Palm and other digital device manufacturers. In turn this also caused a problem with Black's SD Cards as they are manufactured by Sandisk. Therefore, we had to release a Firmware Upgrade for the Optio 33LF to correct compatibility issues with these SD Cards. HOW TO CHECK WHAT THE CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION: Confirm the current firmware version by pushing and "HOLDING DOWN" the "Right Arrow & Right Zoom" button located at the back of the Optio 33LF. While continuing to hold the "Right Arrow & Right Zoom" button turn the POWER on the Optio 33LF. The current firmware version will be displayed on the LCD. If the firmware version reads "Current Version 01.01.05.04" then your cameras firmware is up to date. If you do not have the current version, then please refer to the information listed below. Please be sure to upgrade your camera. You can download the firmware from the following link. Please be sure to follow the instructions listed below. Are you sure your card is an SD card and not an SDHC card? The 33LF works with SD cards, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

When I put my 2gb Sandisk memory card in my pentax optio 33lf, it turns on, the lens goes out, it takes a photo and freezes. What is the problem? If I take the memory card out, it works fine?

My 33LF won't work with even a 1gb Memory Card. It freezez up as you describe. So far it seems happy enough with 512mb cards. A camera shop operator told me that the capacity of the card exceeds the capacity of the camera and it seems he was right.

My 33LF had the same problem with a 1gb Memory Card. I have replaced it with a 512mb card and it seems to be working perfectly. I was told that the capacity of the 1gb card exceeds the capacity of the camera.

According to the Pentax web site, there is no firmware update available for the 33LF camera. As far as your pics are concerned, you can use a card reader to download them to your computer. Then, you can format the card in the camera and everything should be ok.

My camera freezes

This camera supports only 512 mb sd card. If you use any bigger, it freezes. Tried with 1 gb and 2 gb and freezes, while 512 is just fine for the size of the pics of this baby.

Pentax otio 33lf camera suddenly won't go

Try removing the card and see if it will turn on with just the internal memory--or try different memory card if you have one.
Had a somewhat similar problem with a new 1GB card when I shut camera off while it was still saving an image. Camera would come on, take a picture all by itself and freeze up. After using a couple of other cards it magically worked on the bad card
