I have had the Pentax Optio s5i for about two months. A great camera. I love the size, the HQ of the picture, the 3X optical zoom, and most of the features. However, there appears to be an issue with the camera when I try to power the camera off. The power will go off (LCD will go off) but the lens will not retract. When I try to power on again, the power will go on for 2-3 sec, ( no LCD) bep, and shut off, but the lens will not retract. Is there a Fix other then sending it back to Pentax.
It sounds like you have a burnt servo motor. This happens when the camera lens are trying to retract or move and was forced to stop, therefore putting too much current load on the servo and burning it. Might as well get a new camera for practicality.

You can try removing the battery and leaving out overnight then putting it back and charging it up then try the power. This has worked for some people but not all.
