It sounds like your auto defrost isn't working properly. If your evaporator (the part that gets cold) gets covered with ice, then it can't cool properly and the temps raise. The problem is a lot worse in summer because of the higher humidity levels cause a lot more ice to form on the evaporator's cooling fins...especially if you don't have air conditioning.

Freezer is freezing about 25 degree, but the ref. will not get below 40 degree.

It's quite normal if freezing is not reach on 40 degree, it's already high temperature. Remember the lower the temperature setting the higher the freezing of refrigerator, the higher the setting the lesser the freezing.
It's simple as that friend. Good luck!

I have a GE side by side Fridg.that is approx 7-8yrs old.The freezer side is working fine but the fridg. side is not cooling. staying at about 50 degrees just barely cool.. This seemed to happened...

Setting the cooling setting up all the way will not help at all.Make sure your freezer and refrigerator controls are about the same setting. Temp. settings for refrigerator should be between 38-42.degree at medium.. Freezer about 0 to -10.If it is a simple fix this will help.

Gladiator ref is not cooling properly

Check to see if there is cold air coming from the freezer to the refridgerator side through the vent holes The compressor maybe getting weak or the freon charge maybe low. Does the unit run a long time before it shuts off? 50 degrees is not cold enough for a freezer. You should be around 32 or less.

I have an admiral model HMG 67184 side by side and I can't figure out why my freezer section still works but doesn't get cold enough to make ice cubes and the other side doesn't work at all. I do have...

1. Get the Food out of the Ref and Freezer. Unplug the power cord from the wall.
2. The cooling coil is in the back wall of the freezer side. Working from inside the Freezer.
3. Remove the back plastic cover to expose the cooling coil. It's called the Evaporator coil.
4. Use a hair dryer to melt all ice off the coil.
5. Put it back together. It should work for 3 - 5 days now at least.
6. Put a thermometer in there. After 24 hrs. the freezer should be 0 to 10 degrees F. and the Ref. side 37 to 44 degree F.
7. Check the door gaskets for tight fit, using a dollar bill for a gauge.
Shut the door on the dollar and try to pull it out in several places.

If it ices up again in a week or two, you have a defrost heater problem. There is a electric heat strip around the cooling coil. This heat strip comes on about 10 minutes every 8 or 10 hours. This heater melts the ice off the coil. There is a clock timer device under the ref. that cycles the heat strip. You may have a bad clock, fuse device or burned out defrost heater strip. The cooling coil must be ice free to work properly.
