shut down the computer completely and disconnect power cable connection. make sure all cables to the CDROM are connected properly. If they are , remove the cables.
Remove the CDROM, clean it from any dust or debris with air compressor inside bay area and around the connection circuits. Replace the CDROM back into tray and start up computer. If problem persists. go to www.hp.com , retrieve CDROM part number and get a quote for replacement CDROM drive. The one you have obviously does not work at all.
