When you said CD driver are you referring to the Compact Disk which contains data of the drivers for your computer?

If that cannot be recognized by your computer you can always go to the website of your computer manufacturer and download the drivers that you need.

OR

Are you referring to the cd drive of your machine?

If you are what's exactly happening? does it not recognize a certain CD or anything you put in cannot be recognized?

There is no real standard for laptop CD/ROMs I have seen some mount with screws and some that pop out with a tab. I am almost sure it will not work. You can either get an external USB cd from Wallmart or spend the money to get a replacement from the manufacturer.

If your usb drive is not seen, then its one of two problems, you have a network drive interfering or you have a device taking over the drive letter like a cd or hard drive.

To manually set it, start control panel. click on administrative tools. Then computer management. Finally, click on disk management. It will show all your attached drives. Right click on the drive and click Change drive letter and path. Remove the existing letter and add a new one. It should show up.

If that doesn't work, your usb drive is damaged or possibly the usb system.

Check the system BIOS to make sure that the floppy drive is enabled.

Try updating the firmware of your cd rom drive.

There is no setting required that you have to set. The cd should be seen automatically. If possible test the cd drive on another laptop or get a second cd drive to check on you laptop.

Well, I've seen CD-drives that would re-open, when you try to close them -- it is _falsely_ detecting a "jam" as the tray is closing, and then just re-opens the tray, rather than "forcing" itself to close.

Replacing the CD-drive is the only way to fix that type of "false-positive" jam-detection conditions.

But, since you've done that, either you were unlucky-enough that the replacement drive was also "defective", or, you have a computer-virus on your computer that is maliciously issuing commands to the CD to "open-the-tray".
