Sony Cyber-Shot DSC S90 lens problem - fix or buy new?

The lens no longer moves when initially on power up the message "access" appears then eventually will say turn power off and on again. The lense is stuck in the open position. Clearly the lense mechanism is toast. Is this worth fixing or is it best to shop for something new? 8/08 I have the same problem. Camera worked fine over the weekend and I downloaded pictures yesterday. Today, the lense won't retract and I get the Access and turn off and on again messages. I changed batteries. Don't know what else to try.

Its better to replace a new one than to repair it and besides you will cost alot if you decide to repair it. although if the cost is not that much then go for repairing it.

I have a sony dsc-s90. It will work fine for 3 - 5 min. and then a black screen will appear with "turn power off and on again". Once done, it happens again.

Usually a lens sensor. Clean with maybe some compressed air. If you trust your skills you could open the unit and clean cabinet where the lens retracts and extends.

When i turn off my camera sony cyber shot DSC-S90 the zoom wont retract and a word appear in the screen turn off and on again..any idea what's going on with it?

Sounds like you have some grit or gum on the lens barrel. This will cause the lens to stick in the partly closed position. Clean the lens barrel and try again. A rag moistened with methylated spirits may be needed. The rag must not be wet as we must not harm the special grease used in the lens.
If this fails it probably means an very expensive repair, or replacement.

Cannot Take Pictures Anymore...

Hey BLOBO123,
I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. You could bring it to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy™ store and they can send it out for service. The flap that holds the batteries in could possible be purchased from the manufacturer and is probably pretty easy to replace, but the lens is usually much harder and expensive to repair. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Sony cyber-shot DSC-W35

you might just want to buy a memory stick adaptor for your memory stick and insert it in the pc memory stick duo slot.. its alot faster to transfer pictures like that anyway.. I wouldnt worry about connecting the camera to the pc, all it does it is consume battery power and transferring pictures takes a litttle bit longer.  But if you do connect with usb, make sure its hooked on properly and you have plenty of battery power.
