Re: "Communications Error 608"
If you put the Toshiba Pocket PC e740 in your USB Cradle you may receive a "Communication Error 608".
This is not a serious error, it is just a false setting in the ActiveSync Program.
Please follow these steps below to correct this problem:
"Tap" on start and choose the ActiveSync program
Then "tap" on "Tools" and choose "Options" in the ActiveSync Program
Check under "Enable synchronization when cradled using" to see if the setting is on "USB"
If it is set on "Bluetooth", please change it to "USB".
Now you can close the application window
Important: Please remove the Pocket PC from the cradle and then return it to the cradle.
This activates the new setting

This above described issue occurs if you "tap" accidently on the Bluetooth Icon in the Program Group or activate Bluetooth of any other reason, the ActiveSync Option will be set to "Bluetooth" instead of "USB".
This setting will cause the "error 608" if you put in the Pocket PC e740 in the Cradle and start to synchronize over USB.

pls tell me what do u want to do with active sync bcoz this small piece of software gives lot of trouble in winxp , vista WMDC works ok , i know u are frustrated with microsoft support infact support one some issues does not even exist at all , this problem is not from ur PDA it is from this malfunc software that is called active sync , pls let me know if u use active sync to backup ur contacts then u can do it with SPB backup better than active sync without errors u can losd it it to ur pda and can make backups from ur pda not pc dependent at all
by what i have seen when i have that problem i have deleted the partnership from active sync and then recreated the partnership, be sure that you have all your info backed up though because it will wipe it all off. That should help if not let me know
You must reinstall the software from your device. switch it off from the power button and then back on with the joystick pressed down.You will have a blue screen. Put inside one sd-card formatted in fat16 file system with the rom named as winceimg.bin ( you will find it on google).Choose winceimg by sd/mmc card by pressing joystick center. Wait untill on the display will write "restart your device". This will solve your problems
Try this, I read it on a microsoft.com forum. Disconnect the device from the PC. Open Activesync on the device. Open the "Menu". Click "Options" Uncheck "E-mail" from Data you want to Sync. Click "Done" and re-sync devise to PC.
Once I did that, my contacts and all my appointments sync'd. Hope that helps... It seems tons of people have had this annoying issue.
It shouldn?t take more than 10 to 15 seconds for Active Sync to detect the iPAQ once it is inserted in the cradle and it turns on. First off you need to update to the latest version of Active Sync which is 4.5. A couple of times over the past few years I?ve gotten a non recognition error as well. Each time I?ve been able to get away with removing and installing the latest version and my problem has been solved.
Maybe i should help, because i was solving similar problem with C-Series handheld from Compaq, which is almost the same. I am using Active sync 3.0 as the newer versions didnt work properly and i got no problem...
Do you use companion CD for Active sync installation? Can you please tell me which driver is necessary to have? Is there any error message and what is content of this message?
It can also be that Active Sync is already installed! Please check at Add and remove Software in Control panel!
Otherwise go to www.microsoft.com and download a current version of active sync
