I want to install os of windows xp in my emachines e725 laptop

You have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:
http://majorgeeks.com/Kaspersky_TDSSKiller_d6895.html

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:
http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_FREE_Antivirus_d955.html
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira..

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs..

Whenever I connect any removable drive automatically 4 shortcuts got created of control panel.

You have a virus on your PC. Unfortunately, once you have this virus, it usually does not help updating your anti virus and running a scan since the virus is running in the memory of the PC and every infected file the anti virus removes - the virus just puts back again. Try one of two things to remove the virus:

1] First update your anti virus (if you dont have an anti virus, download the free AVG Antivirus and install that and then update it. Click here to go to AVG's website. Once installed - Boot your pc into SAFE MODE. This is VERY important otherwise the virus will load into memory and it wont help running the anti virus to clean the system as the memory resident virus will just replace any infected file that is removed by the scan. To boot your PC into safe mode: Read this article: Click here.

Once you are in safe mode - Open the Anti-virus console and do a complete system scan.

2] Remove the infected hard drive from your PC and install it as a secondary drive in a clean, VIRUS PROTECTED PC!!! ... i.e .. any pc that has the latest anti-virus system installed and is up to date!. Once you have installed the infected drive in the protected PC as a secondary drive, run a scan on the infected drive and remove the virus.

Once you have removed the virus, also scan ANY USB devices on that PC, including any Cameras, cellphones, photo frames, etc that you might have plugged into the infected PC.

Good luck

Windows 7 symentec not supported

windows 7 comes with backward compatiblity, which means that any programmes could be installed even if written for windows xp.
follow the steps below to start.

1. Right click on the setup for your anti-virus
2. look at the tab that say "compatibilty" (or something similar)
3. select that tab
select the previous version (i recommend windows xp pack 3) and make sure to tick the box that says run in administration mode.
4. apply the changes and start the installation again.
you should be able to install now but for any reason i would also like you to right click the setup file and choose "run as administrator" even after applying the above settings. Also if you are installating from a cd, open the cd and apply the settings to the setup file.
let me know of the outcome and good luck

Removal of AVG8

Try bootin to safe mode by pressing F8 on turning on the system then try to uninstall by going into the control panel [Programs(vista)/Add or Remove Programs(XP)]

By doing this you will be able to uninstall the AVG anti virus.
Then restart and the system will boot in normal mode then install Kaspersky. Never have 2 anti virus in a system. Just a word of caution.
Cheers !

I am attempting to install Norton Internet Security 2009. My McAfee Internet Security 2008 runs out in two days. Norton has indicated that I will have to remove an amount of existing programmes (about 20!)...

Norton will not replace the programs.

As long as you have the program disc, just re-install them after installing Norton.

Back up all data (saved documents) first.

Unwanted down loads

if you have an anti virus programme installed, start your pc in safe mode (F8 while booting up) and then run your anti virus and anti spyware programme and also check your temp folder for suspicious folders dated arond the time you downloaded, the only free good anti virus programme is AVG 8 free if you don't have one.

My computer got a trojan and no anti spyware programmes can remove it, i was suggested to re-install windows xp however i do not have a CD, is there any alternative.

download and install AVG Free, see below

http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe

turn off system restore in my computer properties, restart pc but keep pressing F8 while its booting up to get into safe mode.

Choose start windows in safe mode, then use the administrator account to run AVG Free anti virus.

When scanned, restart pc and turn system restore back on again

Virus

Assuming you have an anti virus and spyware programme installed:- you need to turn off system restore first as it backs itself up and then run your anti virus programme, prefferably in safe mode, restart the pc and turn system restore back on.

Antivirus

If you have already downloaded the programme you need, you must turn off system restore, then start your pc in safe mode, install the anti virus update the anti virus then run the check. Using safe mode will stop the trojan or virus from running and making it easier to find by the anti virus programme.
