Question about Olympus Camedia C-3030 Zoom Digital Camera

Maximum of pictures on 3030-Z?

I seeing somewhere that when taken at the lowest resolution, the 3030-Z allows for 16 pictures. Can this be true? Surely, it can hold more. That seems to take away one of the points of digital photography -- a veritable library of images without changes rolls. I realize that at top quality, one image is the maximum, but 16 at the lowest quality?

You can pick up a 64mb card from new egg for @$35 bucks and store 81 High Quality pics at maximum resolution. That's za decent amount of pictures especially when you consider you can review and delete the ones you don't like. I've got two 64 meg cards plus the 16 meg that came with the camera and can store at least 182 pictures on them at HQ (HIgh Quality). Don't count on sticking with the 16 meg card that comes with the camera you will inevitablity want a bigger one. I bought a 64 meg card allmost immediately after purchasing the camera.

I can get around 300 pictures in SQ mode and 35 pictures in the highest resolution mode (Tiff) on a 64mb card and . The 8mb card that comes with the camera is pretty much useless unless you will use SQ mode all the time.

At HQ quality I get at least 81 on a 64 mb. Smaller or larger cards I get numbers proportional to the card mb. I think the 16 number is based on the card that ships with the camera. You can buy as many SM cards as you need and offload them to your computer as you like and reuse the smartmedia.

Display of remaining pictures remains 9999 no matter what size stick is in the camera

If you have a large Gb card and you have set your camera to the lowest resolution, 9999 is the highest the available frame count will go up to. You may well be able to shot more images than 9999 on low resolution. Try setting the camera to the highest resolution and see if the available no. of shots changes. You should also note that the available no. of shots left is only an approximation.

How many pictures can fit in a 3 gigabyte memory?

That depends on the picture resolution and image compression settings. As an example, I just took some pictures on my 8megapixel camera with different settings. At the lowest resolution the file was about 120KB in size, which means about 25000 pictures will fit into 3GB. At its highest resolution and best quality (least compression) the file is about 4MB, which will allow about 750 pictures in 3GB. At the same resolution and lowest quality (most compression) the file is about half that size, allowing for twice as many pictures.

Your mileage will vary, of course. The best way to find out is to take some pictures and see how big they are.

Hope this helps. If you need more information, please feel free to reply to this post and specify the make and model of your camera.

Pictures quality is bad on a lot of pictures - lines and blocks are in the picture display but the thumbnail looks ok

Are you taking pictures at the lowest resolution? Most cameras have jpeg settings low medium and high or something like that are you on low. It may be that the pictures taken at this resolution are only good at thumbnail size.

A couple of thoughts:-

1) Check the resolution the camera is set to, it may, for some reason have been set to the lowest photo resolution.

2) Have a look on the Pentax web site, follow links to Support and or Downloads. There may be a firmware upgrade for your camera. There also may be a forum on the website where someone has had this problem before and resolved it.

Can't zoom when taking picture with A767

While in camera mode you can change the settings so as to shoot in a lower resolution mode where you'll be allowed to zoom in on the image. But you'll lose clarity as you have it in lower resolution and also have zoomed in.

Menu question

P is for pictures, the 001 / 037 refers to 1 photo has been taken out of 37. Most likely you have the camera set for High Resolution and the internal memory of the camera has room for 37 more photos. The camera can be set for Standard resolution and allow room for an additioanl 100 pictures. Adding an SD memory card will allow for many more photos. You can get a user manual from http://www.moultriefeeders.com/ProductInstructions/GameCameras/default.htm

Metering systems

The C-3030 Zoom has two metering systems: the Digital ESP metering system and the Spot metering system. In the Digital ESP metering system, the center and periphery of the picture composition are separately measured to select the optimal exposure. In the spot metering system, only the center is measured. Therefore, a darker subject can be taken with proper exposure without being affected by backlight, etc.
