This e500 has USB1.0 and transfer rate will be slow. If you use Win 98 then install the USB driver (get on web) first. Install software then plug in the USB lead from the crw-785 and don't forget to plug in the DC adaptor for the drive, (e500 USB port does not have enough power to run external drives other than some older thumbdrives).

We check of the requirements of you loptop to isntall a windows Xp so we determine that windows xp you installed is not a genuine..

maybe the OS that you installed is not a genuine so you cannot install .it.try to install a genuine OS

NO all system is low spec. low memory, Hd, cpu,and so on, you might upgrade memory to above 256M to run Winxp and use the orignal driver cds, for driver req. as win98 or NT driver, 1st try upgrade memory, and test.

Hi,when you say there is no sound is it because the volume has been muted?If so you can unmute it by clicking on the speaker icon on the bottom of the tray & uncheck the box,If this is unchecked already it may be your audio settings have been altered and will need reconfigured.

First, format the hard drive and make sure it is in FAT or FAT32 for Windows 98 install. Then do your partitioning etc and should work. If it doesn't, it is possibly a hardware fault.

It looks like your keyboard is wrongly configured, go to control panel, keyboard and set it to standar (101 or 102) keyboard. Also check your local (regional and language) settings are set to correct country.

First tell that which O/S it had earlier coz armada e500 notebook comes with 64 MB RAM and 12 GB HARD DISK , had you upgraded your notebook with RAM AND HARD DISK .
If not then check the hard disk space you have left in the notebook.

Try cleaning the lense using a lense cleaning disk.

Unfortunately it sounds as the drive is on the way out :(

Dvd are harder for it to read than cds so they are normally the first thing to stop working.

Dvd/cd drives dont require drivers as they are plug and play (aka plug and play!! :)

Best not to update the firmware as if it goes wrong then the drive will be dead.
