Have an Abit A17 motherboard that stops booting with a check sum error. Code on the digital readout is either IA or 1A, neither of which is in the manual. Any idea about this?

Basic startup problems is, the powersupply failing, a ram module is defect, cpu dead, bad capacitors on the maninboard, start button failing, wrong connections, on the mainboard.

When you say you "rebooted windows from the CD" do you mean you re-installed Windows?

If so, you will need to download and install the drivers specific to your system from the Abit website.

(Link is for the A17 motherboard)

Download the audio drivers (and the others while you are there) and install them.

Driver genius pro is a good driver finder you could probably find a free one if you google for a torrent

Errors in a motherboard is unlikely, you can try resetting the CMOS if you think it has some errors. Resetting CMOS will clear the BIOS settings.

sound has a ecco and in the code digit is is 2.0 and it has a alarm on it when u start the PC it is like a ambulance noise.
i hope u can tell me how to fix the PC

Error code 26 could mean faulty or not properly seated RAM or video card. Can also mean keyboard error. Error 5D is an audio problem. Hope this helps.

if not try another card liek a pci one
or agp one

check your ram and also clean yopur processor case reattach it.
then restart pc.

u can use any hard drive seagate or samsung but u need to configure the hard drive
