I would say that the lock has failed. Either the lock itself or maybe the pin or latch that fits into it when you close the door may have cracked / broken. If the machine thinks the door / lid is still open, it wont let you start it.
Possible that the switch is defective, there is fault in the line to the control unit from the switch of the control unit is faulty. check these one by one.
The lid switch is probably out. Bypass it and see if she magically comes to life. Their are 3 wires to the lid switch 2 of which are live wires. Jumper them 2 live wires and see if she runs in spin.
If I understand the symptoms the fact that the red light flashes saying that the lid is open suggests to me that there is likely to be a problem with either the lid solenoid/lock or the 'lid closed' sensor. Both require a service engineer's attention I suggest ;-0(
