I have Sony HVR-A1U. Had only 95 days. The LCD screen only displays when turned at 180 degrees and is flat against the body of the camcorder. The rest of the time the screen's display seems like it is...

I am one of the lead technicians at VideoOneRepair.com. We are a repair shop that specializes in only Sony and Canon Prosumer camcorders.

The problem that you are experiencing with your Sony HVR-A1U camcorder is a common problem with this model camcorder. The ribbon cable that connects the LCD screen to the main part of the camcorder goes faulty and needs to be replaced. Sony also recommends that when this cable is replaced you must also replace a modified part to prevent this from happening again. The estimate to replace both of these parts is $360.19 parts and labor. This also includes cleaning and servicing.

We also offer a 6 month guarantee on the entire camcorder, not just what it was sent in for. The estimate and the return shipping are free even if you do not have the camcorder repaired. Please feel free to call, email or post any questions you have and I would be happy to respond.

Sincerely,
Sheryl Bahr

Insignia camcorder wont turn on

If you have replaced the batteries and the unit will still not power on, it may require service. You may take the camcorder to the store of purchase to request repairs. The camcorder has a limited warranty of one year from the date of purchase, so your repair may be covered if within that period. I hope this helps.

GXMG77 Everio camcorder - issue with data transfer to PC

Yes even though it doesn't make sense, the only thing that was found when I brought mine in was that the Battery was corrupted. JVC even after having it in the shop and NUMEROUS calls to customer service. They could not reproduce this problem. Until they brought me to the back to the tech and realized the only thing different was that the battery pack was not in. For some reason the battery pack was corrupted and was causing this issue. I say if you have time on your warranty bring it back and buy a new camera.This will keep happening to the battery packs and JVC will want you to keep buying new batteries. As well as start charging 90 dollars an hour even in warranty to fix it. They kept trying to hold on to it longer and longer till the warranty just ran out.

if 600 sgd is labor only - around 400 usd - you might consider cost of trading up to a newer model ( check ebay for second camera , while you wait for . . . warranty repairs ) ;

Sony dcr-trv22

Just FYI, www.silentwitness.com has Sony modify the camcorders for use in mobile applications so they don't shutdown. I have no cure for this, but I do know the stock models are programmed to do this to prevent overheating. It has to do a lot with the warranty. i.e. you have a one year warranty. The unit can't (without modifications) run 24x7. Said modification almost triples the price of the camera.
