I have a Jenn-Air S156W with a auto self-cleaning oven. The problem is the self-cleaning process does not start. The door handle locks, the fan starts, and you are able to input the start and stop times, but the indicator lamp never comes on and the process never starts. I think maybe it has to do with something on the internal controls (solenoid, switches, etc.). I have pulled up parts drawings off of the internet, so I can identify the parts for the subassemblies, but I do not know how to take apart the stove/oven to access the internal controls. Any thoughts or suggestions?

SOURCE: oven door locked - jenn air

My Jenn-Air double oven locked after a clean cycle. My model (JJW8630) has a series of slots cut in the top of the door. Take a piece of stiff wire, coat hanger, and bend a right angle about 1/2 inch at the end, feed the wire into the 3rd or 4th slot from the center on the right hand side. Turn the wire so that the bent piece is on the top and push the wire so it engages the lever which latches the door shut, it is spring loaded and moves easily.

Once the door was opened, I removed the temperature sensor, held by 2 screws, from the top of the oven and eased the wire out to get to the connector. The faulty sensor was reading 4.2 k, at room temperature it should be just over 1k, while waiting for a new sensor to arrive I stuck in a 1k resistor, ex Radio Shack, so the fan stops running and the door latch can be retracted by closing the oven door, or press the switch on the top right of the door opening.

My replacement part was ordered on line for less than 1/2 the official quoted price.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: frigidaire self clean electric stove 'f9' message comes on when self cleaning

I had the same problem. All I had to do was clean around the door lock. A small bit of burnt food or something had gotten into the hole around the lock and prevented it from moving all the way into position. Took a tooth pick and 30 seconds of probing to clean it out. Works fine now.

Model SVD48600 door won't open after clean cycle. Fan also locked on. Powered off overnight; no change: "Locked" still displayed

That is a very complicated unit for the average handyman. It has electronic controls and a relay board, sensors and a locking mechanism. First thing I would check is the locking mechanism and the switch on it. Do this first and let me know if you find one of the switches defective or shorted. While there, check the light switch which is bi-functional being used for the light and also to tell the ERC the door is opened or closed.

Jenn-Air self-cleaning ovens have a special setting that allows you to clean the oven without chemicals or scrubbing. The oven heats to a temperature higher than used for cooking. The intense heat burns food spills and other residue off oven's inner surfaces.

Instructions
1. Remove the broiler pan and any utensils to prevent them from being damaged. Take out the oven racks, since the high heat might discolor them.
2. Wet a cleaning cloth or sponge with hot water and detergent. Wash off splatters or spills from areas that won't be affected by the cleaning process, including the oven door liner and the oven's front frame. Wipe up any excess grease or spills on the oven floor.
3. Close the oven door and press the "clean" pad on the unit's touch pad.
4. Enter the amount of cleaning time. For example, two hours is appropriate for a lightly soiled oven, three for average and four for heavily soiled. Cleaning should start immediately. The oven will remain locked during the cycle.
5. To delay cleaning, hit the "stop time" pad and enter the desired stop time. For example, if it is 9 p.m. and you want the oven to clean for three hours starting at 10 p.m., key in the numbers 1,0,0.
6. While the cleaning function operates, use the scouring pads to wash the oven racks and other utensils. Once the cycle ends and the oven unlocks and cools, you can use a damp cloth to pick up any loose or burnt debris inside. Replace the racks, broiler pan and utensils.

Jenn-Air stove locked

After the lock indicator light goes out, move the door lock lever to the left. The oven door can now be opened. Turn the selector and temperature knobs from clean to off AFTER THE DOOR IS UNLOCKED. If the temperature knob is turned to off BEFORE the door is unlocked, the door will not open. Forcing the lock will damage the lock mechanism. If this should happen, return the temperature knob back to CLEAN, unlock the door, THEN turn the temperature knob off. Need help unlock oven after self cleaning jenn air jjw9527

The temperature setting must be set on "Cleaning" and the oven cooking dial to "Clean"; otherwise the door will not open and forcing will damage the mechanism. Also, before the door will open, the internal temperature must drop to a safe level and a red "cleaning" light must go off, after the temperature drops inside the oven.

Jenn air oven stuck closed after attempt to activate self-cleaning

The lock motor may have failed. Most often, bending a coat hanger into a hook and sliding from the right side as you move the door to the right, will allow you to release the lock and open the door.
