My Sandisk Cruiser has worked great for over 18 months. All of a sudden, it is no longer recongized by any computer.
I used the Windows Device Manager and tried to update the driver, but I have the latest version already installed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, only to have the installation fail.
Then I tried plugging it into a new computer, and the Cruiser tried to the install its drivers as it normally would. However, an error always occurs during the installation, and the drive cannot be read.
As I have a ton of info on this drive, I would be ecstatic if anyone could help.
See if any bios updates are available, do check for your model mtrbd/system. Also, USB updates themselves from the vendor. XP should support USB drives alone, but glitches are known, in some cases to the flash drives themselves. I found one brand to be problematic, if that's yours try it in another system, that's Memorex brand. Here's a helpful link:

Probably the auto loaded drivers are corrupted and are not working.
You can download the drivers from here:
SanDisk | Products | Driver Downloads
Download and istall drivers.
If this work don't forget to rate my solution
You need to scan your drive in safe mode for virus
It sound like you have a VIRUS on the Flash Very common
Try to use you virus software. You have tried everything so I believe this is the problem
(plz feel free to rate )
Just call a technician for the old recovery of data you have in that disk.he will be having the data recovery software cd to recover the old data successfully.and after that please do not use that same disk again.as it will harm all your system very much.every thing wiill be corrupted because of that.as i myself have faced this problem.
pls do rate the solution
thanks.

If you dont mind to erase all the files on your sandisk and if no other solutions then format it to be use again.

Have you tried plugging in any other usb drives ?
Robert
I do a fair amount of data recovery work as well and that's certainly a good idea. Stop attempting to use the drive until data recovery can start as it would hinder what can be recovered.

it's hard to say why exactly the drive failed.... one other thing to do and i haven't read all the posts so you may have tried this.... plug in the device.... go to start... my computer... right click then select manage from the menu.... when the window pops up... you will see disk management... look at all the drives shown there.... cruizers have a tendency to show up as more then one drive... any drives there close to the size of the usb stick ?? if so ... note what the drive letter is... then go back to my computer... click on it ... is that drive letter shown there ?
Robert
I do have one alternative solution although i do data recovery i've never tried this on a usb stick... i can't tell you exactly that your data would not be damaged... if it works the drive should be recognized and hopefully you would get your data back...

Hi,
Did you try using this flash drive on another PC?Let me know if it works there or not?
The sandisk is still recognize by computer when plug in right? if that's the case try to , Right click on any part of your desktop screen then click on New shortcut , then on the box type in F: then click ok, after that check if you can now access your sandisk using the shortcut that we have created.
Hope that helps.......

It's a 4 GB Cruzer Micro.
Unfortunately, my Cruzer is not recognized by any computer, thus I am unable to add a shortcut to the disk.
I tried the "add a shortcut" theory, but was unsuccessful.
I've tried using the drive on 3 different computers, one of which I had never used before. My drive tried to install it's drivers (as it normally would), but an error occurs each time and the installation fails.
Other USB drives work on my computer.
I can't erase the files on my disk because no computer will display the drive.
Besides, I desperately need to recover these files.
As suggested, I took my drive to 2 different technicians for data recovery. Both stated that the drive has a hardware problem, not a software problem.
One also mentioned that the drive was running too hot and burned itself out. Is this possible?
If so, is there any possible way to still recover my data?
