I am having trouble connecting my RCA dcm425 with a dynex 10base-t ethernet hub to two devices at once. Comcast said I should be able to connect two devices at once but I can only connect one at a time. Whichever one I plug into the switch first is the one that can access the internet.

The RCA DCM425 is a cable modem. You need an Ethernet router to connect two devices to the wide area network provided by the modem. A router assigns I.P. (internet protocol) addresses. Your Dynex Ethernet hub is a switch which will enable you to share files between computers. It doesn't support directing traffic to and from the internet.

I wish that I had better news for you. You can get a router from many sources.

SOURCE: RCA DCM425 modem ethernet connection won't work

The setting for the Computer 1, use the network connection wizard to automatically configure the modem to work as a server station. Next, set the IP number manually and the DNS at automatic or is given by your ISP. Now the Computer 2 (workstation) should be connected to a Hub/Switch. The same, go to network connection wizard and select the appropriate connection setting, there are view samples for the connection types so explore them. After the setup, try loading your internet browser.... When done, it should work fine. Keep me posted for any problems.

SOURCE: DHG535-2 and LAN switch issue

It sounds like the LInksys that they replaced was also a router. A router will route packets to multiple pc's that are connected to it. The cable modem just sees the router as 1 pc. When you use a switch, the cable modem will see all of your PC's. and Comcast just allows 1 pc. You will need to buy a router to use more than 1 PC which will be cheaper than using Comcasts Home Networking service which will network up to 4 pcs

SOURCE: trouble connecting netgear wireless router to rca modem DCM425

First try connection the Yellow ethernet cable from the rca modem to your computer's network connection. If you get a connection this way, then your modem will work with a ethernet cable. If not, then call Comcast for help. The modem ethernet out to computer port must be connected to the wan line of the router. Then you can connect an ethernet cable from your computer network connection to one of the 4 ports of the router. For wireless connections you must set up the router and wireless adaptor with the same settings to connect. Follow the routers directions.

Can you connect a router to a dcm425 router

Yes. My "home" network starts with the cable-modem, with an Ethernet cable between the cable-modem and the "uplink" port on my wireless router, and up to 4 computers connected to the 'LAN' ports on the router, plus support for my wireless devices (laptop, iPhone, tablet).

How can I connect two ethernet cables to this modem?

If your Internet Cable Provider allows it,you will need :

1. Crossover-wired, or "null," category 5 Ethernet cable for the cable modem to be connected.
2. 10BaseT or 100BaseT Hub or Switch.
3. Straight through, or standard, category 5 Ethernet cable (one for each computer to be connected).

Be sure to check with your Internet Provider first.

1 connected ethernet cable from modem to dynex hub in "uplink port", ran another ethernet cable from laptop to 2nd port on dynex hub and ethernet cable from ps3 to 3rd port and nothing happens. Please help...

If your trying to use this to share an internet connection.. sorry to say but it's not going to happen. The hub that you purchased will not handle the DHCP settings that need to be processed to share an internet connection.

Best advice... go back to Best Buy and smack the agent that sold you this and get a router instead. :D That's what you're needing to share your connection.

Can i hook up 2 computers to the rca dcm425 without a wireless router

RCA DCM425 digital cable modems only have one Ethernet cable located in the back of the device. In order to have two computers connected at the same time you will need to have router. The router will connect to the Ethernet port on the back of the RCA modem and then you can have up to 4 computers connected directly to the router using Ethernet cables. If any of your computers are wifi compatible they will also be able to get online by using the wifi from the router.

Hi,

You need a router not a hub or a switch. with the help of the router you can share the comcast cable internet on multiple devices. A hub or a switch can not do this.

Get it replaced with a router. You can buy Linksys or Netgear router.

How do you hook up a Dynex Ethernet Hub

If your hub has 4 or 5 connectors, connect one port to your router. This device will NOT work when connected to your cable modem, as the hub does not manage IP addresses like a router does. Hope this helps ... the remaining ports will feed internet, but not provide Internet addresses to a computer.

IT KEEPS TELLING ME THERE IS NO ETHERNET CABLE ATTACHED

be sure that the cable used to connect your device to the hub is a true crossover cable. if you are using the cable that was shipped with the device, you may need to check your hub / router settings to be sure that DHCP is active, or set a hard IP for the device.
