Maybe what I am asking is too complicated but I thought this was the best forum to look for help... Here is my dilemma... I purchased a Panasonic PV-GS31 MiniDV Camcorder yesterday. I purchased it based on the ratings I saw online in comparison to other models in its price range. The guy at CC told me that this particular cam did NOT come with any Software or cables but if I had Windows XP, I would be fine. The Cam has USB 2.0 Output as well as Firewire. I have managed to snap some photos with the camcorder and send them to my PC from the SD Card I put in the cam. However, I would like to transfer VIDEO from this unit to my PC. My question is: 1. Can I transfer video to my PC from the USB port? if so, how? See, I didnt purchase a Firewire cable because I know that USB 2.0 transfers at a higher speed. right? Ok, I admit I was also being cheap. But anyway, the Panny website offers NO support for this unit in the XP environment. All I want to do is be able to transfer my video and photos to my PC so I can start my career in editing. Can any of you guys help me? Please understand that although I can operate a camcorder and perform the common operations, I know nothing about moving data in the digital domain from a cam to a PC, so please be gentle with this novice. Go ahead and buy firewire cable get adobe premiere pro and firewire cable. Firewire is faster than usb. you will use usb cable just for pictures transfer. good luck
Your logic is correct, UB2 is a little faster. However, as you have discovered, it is not recognized by the software very well. The quick solution is to buy a firewire kit at Amazon or where ever and your problems are over. The harder solution is to find software versatile enough to recognize video from the UB2 port.
