The model number is GSW9800PW2. The chain like noise is only during the spin cycle. The water will drain it just will not spin. I actually changed the agitator dogs and that isn't the issue.

I have a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II top load washer product number GSW9800PW2. During the spin cycle the agitator does not turn and I get a loud chain like ringing noise. I changed the agitator dogs and that did not work. It is not the drain hose. Need help.

Thank you for the video. Very helpful to determine that this is beyond our scope. We plan to get a repair man and now we at least have some background on what needs to be done.

No worries. we decided on a washer repair person.

Hi

If the drain pump assembly is fine and the drain hose is in correct position then check the control board, maybe the relay for the pump on control board is bad and the board should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

be either a broken/bad impeller or the drain pump assembly. You can disassemble
top deck, neck ring, agitator and inner bowl and use a container to empty the
bowl. Check for any foreign objects by inspecting from above by removing
pump hood, cap and impeller and check for obstructed drain hose. Also check the

    what ever has gone bad.

My Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washer goes thru all cycles but will not spin, so clothes are wet. We replaced the motor coupler but will only spin without clothes. Once you put clothes in the tub does

sounds like direct drive gears are bad.. there is a slip coupling that goes over the shaft of the transmission adn assist turning the tub that could be worn or broken. you will have to remove the agitator and check the nut on top of the tub to see if it is tight or to remove the nut and check that coupling.

Dear shelldon39, Fri 2-20-2009 9:24pm EST (USA)

Some machines will shut down during the spin cycle as a precaution to prevent damage!

They will do this if you overload the washer with clothes and/or use too much detergent!

If this doesn't help please get back to me with more details!
