I recently got a Cassiopeia e-105G. I tried to install Quake1, therefore creating a few new folders and copying large amounts of data from my PC to the Casio. I waited quite some time for one of the file-copying processes, until the screen of the casio froze. i reset it. still didnt work. i did the other reset, and the last reset possibility. The only thing that appeared was the start-up screen... the weird red picture of a city, but WIn CE wont boot. Wot shall i do!?!?! cheers, I'd be v.happy if someone could help me, Gordon
Apparently the device worked before you attempted to install Quake1. So component wise all should be well. One more thing you can try is to remove both batteries & leave it for a while. Install the main battery & then the Backup battery. Before starting make sure the main battery is fully charged. Now try to start the device & hopefully it should boot normally. If it freezes at the starting screen, very definitely something is not making proper contact inside the device & perhaps you should check out the connections within the device following the disassembly instructions at the pocketpcpassion site.
I am assuming that the device did connect to your PC & could be sunchronised prior to your attempted Quake installation. I am also assuming that the device is now fully functional in the like new (out of the box) state. Before you can restore the device to pre Quate state you have to resolve the hardware issue & have communication established between the device & ActiveSynch. Have you checked the PC connection settings on the Cassiopeia ? It might have defaulted to IrDa instead of serial. With the charger connected to the cradle & the device in the cradle, does the green charging light turn on ? Some of the chargers are wobbly & you might have to jiggle the devi ce to make proper connection. Green light is one indication of proper contact. When activeSynch tries to look for the device do both the serial ports show up in the available ports ? Are you by chance sharing the physical com port with some other device ? If you continue to have problems with the device do contact me directly with your os, hardware & software details. Reply With Quote
Your only recourse would be a hard reset. If you wish to go back to the same stage before installation of Quake you will have to delete the partnership in ActiveSynch WITHOUT deleting the Synch folder. Next place the hard reset device on to the cradle. Active synch will find the device. Create partnership using the same identity parameters as you had before hard reset. Setup the synch option to manual. Click on the tools - add remove programs. Highlight Quake if it is on the list & click remove. You can then add rest of the software on the list. Once installed you can go back to the main screen & click on the synch icon. I am not a gamer but you might try installing quake on a cf card in stead of the main memory. It might solve your problem of excessinve storage space/ ram requirement.
