You might have accidentally deleted key system files, but this is worth a shot:

Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Hold in the volume + button on the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover your device if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player. Warning: this procedure will result in your songs being erased off the player, so they will have to be reloaded.

Philips GoGear Firmware Upgrade
You need to get the latest firmware upgrade from the Philips website:
1. Go to www.philips.com/support
2. Enter your country/language
3. Enter your model # SA6045 or whatever
4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it)
5. Click on "Software & Drivers"
6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager"
7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager
8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course)
9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically
If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Manager installed (the latest is the version from the Philips website), then clicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "The firmware on your device is already up to date."

SOURCE: whenever I turn on my Philips GoGear SA5125 - it

Hello,

when an Mp3 goes off like that, is means that the Mp3 is corrupted with virus from an application you installed or a data inside the Mp3 player and and has caused it to have memory loss.

To restore the memory of the Mp3 back to normal, you need to flash the Mp3. Flashing restores back memories that where lost.

After flashing it, it will start working properly again.

Take care.

I ran the battery on my MP3 player completely down and it shut off. I charged it and now all the songs are gone... is there a way to recover the lost songs?

Try this:

1)Perform a system reset, which won't erase your files, to attempt to correct playback. Locate a thin object, such as pen tip or unfolded paper clip and insert it into the small reset hole on the bottom of your GoGear. Hold the thin object in place until you see the unit shut down completely. Your system has been reset. Power the device back on to see if the corrupted files have been corrected. If the reset failed to correct the issue, perform a file recovery on your GoGear.
2)Initiate a file recovery by first connecting your GoGear to your computer. From your computer's "Start" menu, choose "Programs," "Philips Digital Audio Player," "Area Device Manager" and "Philips Device Manager." The Philips Device Manager software will be activated. Inspect your GoGear to confirm that it is turned off. Plug the small end of the supplied USB cord into the bottom of your GoGear while holding down the "Volume Up." Insert the larger end into a free USB port on your computer. Hold the key as the "Philips Device Manager" reads your GoGear and activates recovery mode. Click "Repair" and follow the onscreen prompts as given by the "Philips Device Manager" to complete the process of memory recovery. Disconnect your GoGear from your computer properly after the process is complete and restart your MP3 player.
3)Reload and replace the files onto your GoGear by first connecting your GoGear to your computer. Plug the supplied USB cord's small end into the bottom of your GoGear and the large end into your comptuer's USB port. Initiate Windows Media Player by clicking on its icon if it doesn't start upon connection with your GoGear. In the left pane of the WMP, click "Philips GoGear Aria." Click the arrow on the top left edge of the WMP window, followed by "Music." Highlight all files, and click "Delete." Click the "Sync" tab on WMP, and drag and drop the music files you would like to replace and reload into the "Sync List" panel. Click "Start Sync." The files will be freshly loaded onto your GoGear.
4)Properly disconnect your GoGear from your computer to avoid memory corruption by first closing all applications in use by the GoGear (WMP). Click the USB device icon in your system's tray (located on the bottom right corner of your screen). Follow the prompts in order to safely remove your GoGear from your computer. When your computer tells you it's safe to remove your GoGear, unplug the USB cord from your GoGear.

Hope this helps!

Froze on the screen

Here's what you want to do:
1) Back up all music and picture files if possible
2) With the GoGear powered on, reset the player by holding the power on/off and volume + keys simultaneously until the GoGear shuts down
3) Turn the GoGear back on and see if message persists

If the "please connect player to PC" msg persists:
1) Connect GoGear to computer
2) Open Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips in Windows XP if no shortcut on desktop)
3) Click on the Repair tab - see if there is a msg that says something like "to repair your player, connect GoGear to computer while holding the volume + button"
4)IMPORTANT: Disconnect the GoGear from the USB cable, turn the GoGear OFF, and then press and hold the volume + button; then, connect your GoGear to PC while still holding the volume + button (VERY IMPORTANT: this process will fix your player, but it will also delete all music and images you have stored on the GoGear) - do not let go of the Volume + button until a pop-up comes up saying that your player is being repaired

After the repair process is complete, your player should work fine - you will have to re-download all files to the GoGear.
