Dell Mini 10 netbook (windows xp) cannot connect to internet. This netbook is connected to our wireless network and it has a very good signal strength. But every time I click to go on Internet Explorer, I get a "Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage" message. The other 2 netbooks on our wireless network have no problem connecting to the internet. How can I fix this?

On the casing, is there a slider-switch that disables/enables the wireless interface?

  • Anonymous Jul 14, 2011

Is there a key-combination (such as holding-down the 'FN' key, and pressing one of the 12 'F' ("function") keys, to enable/disable the wireless adapter?

Can you remove the disk-drive from the "bad" computer, and install it in one of the "good" computers, and then boot the computer? Does wireless work on the "good" computer, while using the disk-drive from the "bad" computer? Does wireless work on the "bad" computer, if you attach the disk-drive from the "good" computer?

I cannot get my new dell mini inspiron to connect to the linksys wireless router in the home network. it cannot even detect the network. How do I fix this?

Have you been able to connect your netbook to other wireless networks? Do you have anything else connected to your home wireless network? Can you see your home wireless network using a different computer?

If you can't see other wireless networks check to make sure your wireless card didn't get shut off. Usually there's an on/off switch on a laptop to do this, or a combination of function keys.

If you can see other wireless networks and just not your own, try the wireless network's settings on the router. If you do have some type of security, I'd start off troubleshooting with no security, then move up to WEP, then WPA, then WPA2 in that order, or at least as high as you can get with the options available on your router. It might be that your wireless network is too secure for what your Mini 10 can handle.

Please refer to the User Manual for the HP Mini Netbook, located here:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01657997.pdf

Specifically, take a look at page 25, "Connecting to a wireless network". At the bottom of this page, if you are seeing the icon listed as Wireless (disconnected), this means the wireless switch on your Mini is turned off. To turn it back on, find the small slider button on the front of your Mini with the wireless antenna icon next to it, and slide it. This should activate your wireless card, and if you have a wireless network in range it should identify it shortly after.

If your wireless card is already on, and it cannot find your wireless network signal, you can try either (1) restarting your router, or (2) visit the HP Support page for the Mini 1115NR, select your version of Windows installed on the Mini, then download and install the latest wireless networking drivers.

I am not able to connect wirelessly with a new dell inspiron mini 10 i have fios at home and it will not connect

If your trying to get on the internet with a wireless connection..and I am assuming you DO have a wireless router all set up and configured to broadcast the signal (not hidden) ....first we have to determine if the problem is at the router or at the laptop AND at what point its getting stuck ... so first try this

try resetting the router (unplug for a few minutes) try --be sure the wifi switch is enabled on the netbook---try---go to CONTROL PANEL>NETWORK CONNECTIONS--right click oin your wifi card and choose properties--highlight INTERNET PROTOCOL and choose properties and be sure "OPTAIN IP ADDRESS AUTOMATICALLY" is checked--Does the laptop "SEE" the router?
You will need your SSID to logon to the router(internet)

Here is the internet setup info for that netbook from Dell's website ...

Setting up Your Internet Connection To connect to the Internet, you need a modem or network connection and an Internet Service provider (ISP).
To set up an Internet connection with a provided ISP desktop shortcut:
  1. Save and close any open files, and exit any open programs.

  2. Double-click the ISP icon on the Microsoft® Windows® desktop.

  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup.

If you do not have an ISP icon on your desktop or if you want to set up an Internet connection with a different ISP:
Windows Vista®
  1. Save and close any open files, and exit any open programs.

  2. Click Start interne3.jpg ® Control Panel® Network and Internet.

  3. Under Network and Sharing Center, click Connect to the Internet.

    • Choose Dial-up if you will use a dial-up modem or ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network).

note.gif NOTE: If you do not know which type of connection to select, click Help me choose or contact your ISP.

Hello, I got a Dell Inspiron mini 10 for christmas. and i can be on my home wireless network. then it will suddenly drop signal and i wont be on the internet any more. what's wrong with it?

hi Power off your router and wait about 45 seconds then plug in the power to the router again, restart your dell mini and see if the connect gets more stable. do you have any other wireless pc's in the house? if so do they work fine? if you dont have any other wireless pc's try to get a friend to come over with a laptop and see how their connection is to your network... that will definitely isolate if you have a router issue or a PC issue. keep in mind if you have other pcs in the house and they are hardwired into the router, they will not exhibit the connection loss that wireless pcs connected to the router will experience.

hope this helps!

I cannot get my Netbook to connect to my wireless network. I have 3 other devices that connect just fine. What am I doing wrong?

Windows Zero Wireless Configuration is one of the best programs to run a WiFi in Windows XP or Vista. Most of the other software packages that come with the different adapters have been poor at best in keeping a connection through Windows. Here is the best guide to get you back up and connected.

Windows XP:

Click Start
Right click on My Computer
When a window pops up click on properties
Click on the Hardware tab
Click Device Manager
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.

Windows Vista:

Click Start Logo
Right Click Computer
Click Device Manager
Windows will ask you about opening Device Manager Click Continue
Click the [+] next to Network Adapters
Find your wireless card and right click on it.
Click Disable
Windows may warn you that disabling the device may make it stop functioning.
Continue disabling the device.
Wait 30 seconds or so.
Right click on your wireless again and click Enable.
Exit the device manager.
Reconnect to your router.
You should now be able to connect to the internet.
