Auto program message

The television has worked well for more than 3 years. Suddenly there is a dark square message box covering the middle of the screen about initial set up and auto programing of channels (CH+ auto; CH- exit). If I do the necessary steps to auto program the channels, it has no effect, and the box remains. If I try to use the CH+ or CH-, nothing happens. Any suggestions as to removing the message box?

Welcomejee said the problem is a result of dry solder on the 80 pins IC mounted at the rear side of the main board. It can be resoldered.

When the screen is dark there are lines that run back and forth across the screen which is only noticable when pitcure is dark immage.

the screen bias needs to be turned down-ehind the front cover which is behind the grille there is a small black square about 3 inch square 6 little knobs sticking out 3 say in small letters screen and 3 say focus, don't adjust the focus just the screen for the coresponding color that shows up when picture is dark.best way to do this is darken the room and put it on video input with no signal if lines are white slowly
adjust 1 color after the other counterclockwise untill
lines disappear if only 1 color shows then only adjust the knob with the matching color. this is a very fine adjustment, to much will make your auto focus stop working. check it after you are done

Square box in middle of t.v. black everywhere else.

Turn off the closed-captioning. If it's set for text mode, the screen will blank out an area for the text to be displayed. On channels or programs where captions aren't being used you won't see any problems, but other times you'll have the mysterious black box. Many TV remotes have a single button to control captions, so it's easy to get into text mode without knowing it.
