We have a dell 5110 cn and we are having difficulty with the color printing the same. we had 2, and both were printing differently. we are printing labels in adobe illustrator cs3 and we need the color to match whats on the screen
There are a number of things to adjust color.
#1) reset all of the settings to default.
2) download the latest firmware and install
3) download the latest drivers and install
Once all of that is installed, there is a calibration test and setting you can do. This is all outlined in the owners manual for the printer (it is a rather long process)
The original install disk has the manual with all of the steps. If you don't have your install disks, you can download the manual from the Dell site. Just do a search on the printer, by printer make, or you can enter the service tag.
The control panel for the printer (the one you can bring up in Windows if you go to properties of the printer) has color settings and adjustments. There are also color adjustments in the printer. You can access them by entering the IP address of the printer in a web browser.
The paper you are printing on can also have an affect on the color.

This has to do with the document printing properties. When you are ready to print a document, choose properties and make sure you go through the printer settings under that software. The test page only verifies the cartridges. The printer properties of the software control the printer during printing.
it's asking for paper in the manual Paper Feeder (MPF). Somewhere in your settings you have it printing to the MPF. Check the settings in the printer prefrences, the printer itself and the software you're using.
Cheers.
Your problem is not fully explained above as to which color you are having difficulty with, however, the explanation below will more then likely apply to your issue as well. Simply substitute "yellow" for the color you are having an issue with. This is the explanation I gave to another user who was having problems with "yellow prints lite".
If you let the yellow ( or any other color ) toner get to the point where the toner cartridge was totally empty, there is one thing you can try which may help. From the "menu", select "maintenance", then go to "clean developer" and choose the ( which ever color ran low ). The machine will then churn for a few minutes. What happens is there is a tube that moves the toner from the toner cartridge down to the developer unit ( which is behind the imaging drum). If the toner was allowed to totally run out, there is an area of the tube which may have little or no toner in it. Each time you print, there is a spring auger within the tube that draws the toner to the developer. By running the "clean Developer" it turns the auger and re primes the tube.
If this does not fix the issue, and you have replaced the imaging unit, then the (insert color ) developer is defective and would need to be replaced.
This involves quite a bit of work and is not considered user replaceable.
