Of course. If your camcorder shoots photos or videos in SD card, you can find a USB cable and directly connect it to computer. You will then find a folder of your camcorder on My Computer. Finally, drag and drop photos and videos from the camcorder folder to your local computer drive.

If your camcorder store shooting files on DVD or mini DVD, then you may need a DVD copy software like Leawo DVD Copy to help you transfer photos and videos from your camcorder to computer. It can not only back up your DVD to computer or another blank disc, but also remove copy protection and region code from commercial disc you bought.

Can not get video files from a mini dis dcr dvd 108 handycam when I try to import to my pc it says does not support this dis i was using usb cable to pc with sony's software thanks jim

First make sure to finalize recorded disc in camcorder, finalization option is available in camcorder menu and will be enable by powering camcorder with AC charger/ adapter.
Now you can transfer movie files in computer or put recorded disc in computer dvd rom and copy files.

I am having a sony hi 8 ccd trv 58 model handycam. i want a driver to transfer my videos to my personal computer. any free drivers available?

CCD-TRV58 is analog camcorder and can not be connected with computer directly as camcorder does not have USB or iLink/ DV ports.
Computer needs digital format movie data to store / edit files.
You need to hook camcorder audio-video out to DVD recorder and burn DVD of camcorder movie so you will get digital format of movie. Put that DVD in computer and copy files for further process.

Unable to Read/upload photos from my Camcorder to PC

Your computer should be reading your connected camcorder as an additional drive or hard drive (not folder) when connected. Here are some tips to make this easier for you (Make sure your camcorder is on movies not pictures when you do this):

Steps:

1. Connect you usb to you computer and camcorder
2. Camcorder ask do you want to playback, backup, create dvd, direct print.... Choose playback
3. Option pops up on your computer.. Select "Take No Action"
4. Go into My Computer and open the E: or Everio_HDD
5. >>For movies- Select SD-Video - Folder PRG002 or PRG001 are where your movie files is located
Drag and drop .MOD files to your desktop **.MOI files are indexes of the .MOD files and will not convert **

>>For Pictures- Select DCIM - Folder 101JVCSO or 100JVCSO - Drag and Drop to desktop - NO FILE CONVERSION NECESSARY

6. Change the file extension to .MPG

** If you find yourself haveing issues changing the file extension, open my computer... select tools... go to folder options.... uncheck "Hide extension for known file types", check it back when your finished if you have kids.. I do for my computer.***

**You are simply creating copies of your files when you drag and drop you movies and pics***

No changing of file extensions is necessary if just saving to computer and you have the software.... but file extension change will allow you to view back movies with Windows Media Player.

Hope this helps

Acessing Still Photos off finalized disk

A DVD player may not recognise JPEG, but will recognise MPEG, which is why the DC210 has the Photomovie facility to convert the still photos from JPEG to MPEG, but you can still get to see your still photos on your PC, because they are on the disc.

Here's how you do it.

The disc has two folders - VIDEO_TS for videos and Photomovie and DCIM for the still images. Inside DCIM there is a folder called 101CANON. Open this folder to see the still images - they all have .jpg file extensions.
It may be quicker to copy the 101CANON folder to your PC, and open the copied file on your PC.

Don't forget to rate this solution once you've tried it !

Transfer Video From Camcorder to Computer

Here is what ya need to do, that is get the correct cable(s) to connect your Camcorder to your PC, usually USB or Firewire. Then install the software that will allow you to transfer the movie from the camera to your PC where you can then manipulate the files as ya wish with Movie Editing software. The "Other" way is to burn them to the small Camera Disk, place that disk in ya PC's CD/DVD then simply "Copy" the "Movie" to ya PC, and then once again ya can use Movie Making/Editing software to Join, Edit your movies. Another way is to connect the output A/V of your camera to your A/V input on your PC (if you have one).. using you Video software capture the Camera Video to the PC & Edit the resultant file, as B4. Windows Movie Maker works OK, but there are many Freeware programs that one can use.. have a "Google" for these programs .... AnyDVD, convertXtoDVD, Moive joining software, ShrinkDVD, I am sure you will have no trouble finding what ya need.

Video playback is not smooth while playing via USB 1.1

USB1.1 port can generally handle transfer speeds approaching 5.5Mbps between PC and DVD Camcorder. Smooth playback of movies requires 5.5Mbps speeds or above. If the PC you are using has some compatibility issues with the USB driver software, the USB port may drop to speeds below 5.5Mbps causing short pauses during video playback. It is recommended to copy the movie file from the DVD Camcorder to the hard disc drive (HDD) on your PC, then playback the movie from the hard drive.
