Won't start HAd an outlet burn out. I guess it caused some problem with my AFS-2000. Now it won't start up. My manual shows a reset on the front control panel, but my unit has an 8 amp (fuse?). There doesn't seem to be any type of access to it. Do I have to take the control panel apart to get to this?

    Thank you for your efforts, let me clarify a few basic details;
    The outlet has been replaced,
the circuit checks out strong, now,
the breaker is good. The units power cord shows no sign of heat distress.
Pressing the external fused reset doesn't help.
We pulled off the 'power-in' face plate and removed the reset. It doesn't appear to allow access (to replace a fuse?).
We have a second unit, so can see how a working unit responds.

HI
I THINK THE Magnetic fluid (ferrofluid) fills a small annular gap between a rotating shaft and a stationary magnetic pole piece. The gap is part of a high-energy magnetic circuit which includes the shaft and pole piece. The very large magnetic flux in the gap exerts a force on the fluid, holding it in place against pressure difference from atmosphere to vacuum, yielding a dynamic rotary seal in which there is no solid friction. Therefore, very long operating lifetimes are achieved.
Because the magnetic fluid has very low vapor pressure, it remains permanently in place for the entire lifetime of the seal, and does not contaminate the system. Some applications have special requirements (high temperature, highly reactive gases) which can be satisfied by selection of the optimum fluid from our family of fluid materials.

Is plug not damaged? you will have to take cover off to access fuse

  • Anonymous Sep 12, 2008

If you have a voltmeter you can check the voltage of the power cord coming in to machine and go from there it is either gonna be a bad switch, cord or power supply. will have to trace out voltage.I am not an expert on this machine just trying to help.

Check the fuse inside the unit, it is located where power cables hook up.

  • Ginko
    Ginko Aug 26, 2008

Start testing the unit on a different power outlet, check that the power cord has not melt, and that the plug is fine.
If you are in UK, or you are using a fused power cord, check also the fuse inside the power plug.
If cord and plug are ok check inside the unit, you will find the fuse located where power cables hook up.
If fuse is ok, then power cable must be replaced.
If fuse has blown, but unit does not start after cable replacement, then power supply inside air purifier must be replaced, in this case verify your guaranty terms and call number listed on your user manual.

I had similar issues and by replacing the 2200 micro (Mu) Farad, 10 Volt capacitor on the PCB, all of my issues ceased.
Below is a link with information supplied by "fixya" that explains the procedure/details.
Hopefully this will solve your current issues.
Good luck,

I "won" a Rainmate from

No, not that I'm aware of. But, the problem itself, may be in the electrical receptacle. A loose wire, a bad connection or interior damage could all cause the circuit breaker to trip. Or it may simply be the case, of line that air purifier is plugged into, is simply overloaded, because of other electrical appliances are on the same circuit of tripped the circuit breaker. Most air purifiers have their on circuit breaker or fuse built-in to the unit. And that, will usually trip before the circuit breaker in the breaker panel of your home.

Here's how you test that theory: Plug the unit into another outlet, that is on an entirely different circuit than the original one and turn it ON. If this trips a different circuit breaker, then you know it's an internal problem with the unit. If it doesn't trip the circuit breaker, the problem is with the original receptacle or the line that feeds that receptacle and it's circuit breaker.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

All of the lights on the control panel are flashing simutanously and constant. The air cleaner is not working. I just had it tuned up about a month or so ago. Whats happening

Here's something that has worked in the past. Turn the Master ON/OFF switch to OFF. Unplug the unit from the wall outlet and wait 12 - 15 minutes before plugging it back in. Once it's plugged back in turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and set the controls as you normally do.I f everything now functions as it should, the unit reset itself.

If that doesn't solve the problem contact the Oreck Service Dept that did the tuneup for you.

I was doing cleaning and maintance on my fresh air unit, I noticed the red wire was no longer connected to clip that powers ac to ozone plate. I trimmed red wire till burned part was gone got good wire...

Congratulations! You did better than many dealers!

Hopefully, the answer to your problem is far easier than replacing the clip!

On the right side of the front panel, among the manual controls, there is a tiny little "reset" button. While the machine is running, press that button.

Then, turn the machine completely off for a few minutes, and then power it up again. Hopefully, that will take care of the message.

If not, inspect the plate. Are there any defects or lint particles? Check the placement of the plate. Is it inserted in the tracks, both top and bottom? Are the metal contact fingers pressing firmly on the metal screen portion of the plate?

If this still doesn't take care of the message, there is something wrong with the wiring, plate, or contacts, or the computer is malfunctioning! Call Vollara (new name for EcoQuest) customer service 800-989-2299 and ask for repairs. Someone there may also have suggestions, before you go to the trouble of sending in the machine. Use #16618 if you need a referral number.

HOW TO REMOVE FRONT CONTROL PANEL IN ECOQUEST AIR PURIFIER

behind the front panel fingerboard on each side there is a screw hidden. You have to very slightly and gently with a fine bladed knife pry up those left and right sides to expose the screw. Its a thin piece of plastic covering the screen. Be very careful because there are electronics imbedded in the fingerpad that you are prying up. Gently lift the sticky covering only enough to get to the screws. It can be done but be careful.

Pure Ion will not turn on. We took out the filters to clean them. Wall outlet works for other items. Have tried other outlets.

It sounds like the main board is not getting power. The power supplies have capacitors inside that do overheat and burn out. You can test power coming from power supply leading to main board with a voltmeter. You can try to unplug for 8 hours, in meantime while unplugged, press and hold power button for 5 seconds, then wait 1/2 hour and plug back in to see if unit has reset itself
