Try to set all menu items to default as much as you can. Some cameras have a reset to default setting or a button to reset to default. After setting to default, try the camera again. If all fails, this camera will need repairs. If it is too old, and not worth it, it may be the best to sell for parts on a site such as Ebay.
On the EVOLT E-300 it is not a camera that has a live view LCD screen that will allow you to see the image before it is taken. You must take the image with viewfinder only and only use the LCD screen for review purposes. This is how the camera was designed.
You can use Compact Flash cards (Type I and II) and Microdrive. By connecting with the CF Card adapter (MACF-10), xD-Picture Cards can also be used. Basically, you can use any manufacturer's Compact Flash Card in EVOLT E-300.
The following Microdrive cards are verified as compatible with the E-300 camera:
DSCM Series - DSCM-10340, DSCM-10512, DSCM-11000
3K4 Series - HMS360402D5CF00, HMS360404D5CF00
