There are many reason why a monitor suddenly turned off then back to work again , over use may over heat that cause the soled parts on the printed board of your CRT go loosen , try to re sold it, sometimes your PC might stop viewing so the monitor automatically shot off stby mode , loose connection due to basted parts , capacitors, power regulators, resistors , even the cables also might be.

I have a memorex. I am getting sound but no picture. When powered on, the memorex sign shows up but then no picture just sound. Also makes a slight screeching sound for approx 10 sec. when powered on.

I guess the blanket draped over the TV is intended to give it a "timeout". Anyway, you will likely conclude eventually that the internal power supply has failed.

My monitor works fine for weeks than suddenly just goes black! I turn it off and back on and it only stays on for about three seconds than goes black again! The power light stays on!

take off the monitor data cable from pc and try to turn monitor on if appears a smal square on the screen that mean your monitor is ok , and the black screen reason maybe data cable or vga card.

note : your monitor resolution is 1680x1050 some times wrong resolution cause like this problems

Monitor goes black after about 7 to 10 seconds. I can turn power off and then back on and it will be ok for about 10 seconds before it goes black again.

Check whether the cable from the system to the screen is connected properly and there is not loose contact. Also take the system into BIOS and check whether the same issue is happening in the BIOS screen.Try a factory reset on the screen by pressing the OSD button on the screen.
Switchoff the screen and disconnect all teh cables including the powe cable and press and hold the power button for around 40 sec and now reconnect the cables and try to power up the screen

Monitor flickers and goes blank after 5 seconds and keep repeating this very often.

Hello,

If you turn the monitor off then about 1020 sec turn it back on and have a picture for five sec again it sound like the power supply in the monitor. but if that did not solve the problem, the picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replace.

I advice you replace the picture board on the screen of your monitor to solve the problem of the blank screen.

Take care.

Everything was fine and the all of a sudden screen went black, then desktop picture comes up for about 1/2 sec, barely time to read it, then it goes to black for about 4-6 seconds before repeating cycle....

the CRT is shorting out which is why its coming on and turning off. If you bring it to an electronics shop it will at least cost $100 assuming they can do something with the CRT. If not then it will be more and you would be better off getting an LCD monitor and they are usually around $125-$140 for a 19" on sale.
