Peuhayd is pretty close. It may be due to the PS2 not being able to read the scripts on the Disk. If you can, get a newer one and see if that works. The version may be old and there might be a problem with the info getting onto the PS2.

i have the same problem.i returned my first one and got a new one and it still didnt work!i tried both on my friends ps2 and the first didnt work,but the second one did.no matter how much iu calean i still doesnt work.one my friednds some of his games wont play on it but on his other ps2 the game that dont work on the other work on that one and vice versa.
Have 'slim' ps2 and my new rock bank disc won't read. All other games play fine. Brother has even older ps2 and it plays fine on his. Why? Would a new disc help? Should I return rock band system for another to try?
same with me. i got it for xmas, but none of the lights are coming on and it says disc read error. i got a wii, too, so should i got out and return the one for the ps2, and exchange it for the wii version?
We got Rock Band as an xmas gift for son. All of his other games work fine on his older PS2 but Rock Band says disc read error, etc. We thought it was the disc and exchanged it at the store but had the same problem with the new one.
it could be the scripting of the game. I got my ps2 when ther were first released (like a geek i waited 3 days out front of the store...) and ive noticed that some of the newer games wont run on the older system because the info is slightly different. have you tried the game in a newer system to see if its the disc itself?
