Magellan Roadmate 760

Have had my Magellan for almost 2 years and was working fine until today. When I pressed the button to start it, it would not turn on. A few times you saw the start up screen for maybe 3 seconds than it went blank. Have no clue what my next step should be.

As I could not figure out what was wrong with it, I called Magellan customer service and was told my Magellan Roadmate was now known as "a legacy". Imagine not even 2 years old and it is "a legacy" and therefore parts are no longer made for it!! They did tell me I could mail my unit to them and they would "upgrade" me to another newer model for an additional $200. I decided not to as I want to get away from a Magellan product because of this problem.

However, I do want to thank you for taking the time to try and help me. You are probably right, that the problem is the cradle and with it being so expensive, why bother! Thanks again!

I went to use my 760 this past weekend and could not get it to power on. At first, I thought it was my power socket not sending power to the unit. (The power plug is so tight that it pulled my socket loose). Got the power socket repaired and again tried to power the unit on.

No dice. Went inside the house and used the AC connector. Can't even get it to power on this way. No blue light, so power must not be making it all the way to the GPS unit, however I do hear a slight buzz.

After trying to figure out what the problem is, it must be the cradle.

I had the same problem. A new cradle and DC cord fixed everything. Anyone have any idea what model Magellan will upgrade you to for $200.

The weakness of the 760 is the cradle. Is the power wire or the cradle loose or wiggles? You may need to buy a new cradle if that is the case. They are expensive. I soldered my power wire right into the cradle and it worked fine.

How can I get the code to unlock the European map Magellan Roadmate 760

You will need to pay Magellan for the authorization code, they are the only one that can provide you with an EU code for your Magellan 760 RoadMate. Sometimes Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc can also assist. They have direct connection with Magellan to assist issues with Magellan products. Good Luck

I need an upgrade for my magellan Roadmate 760

You can download an upgrade for this unit from the Magellan website for free. Maps can be upgraded but they cost about $80, and that doesn't seem worth it to me. See if that works for you.

Magellan 760 does not find satellites

I recently i had the same issue. Open the four screws from back. remove the back cover carefully (tahe care of the attached cables).

check the atena wire connection (gray thin wire). both the ends should be seated firmly.

in my case, soldering at one end was broken. had to resolder. its working now.

Magellan Roadmate 760 Freezes and Restarts

Chgorose, It sounds like the hard-drive is for lack of a (better)technical term.. crapping out on you. You tried the "GPS data reset" but in that same menu ("secret menu") there's another option that says reset user data (not GPS). I would try this before paying for repairs. If you have software that you can reload then reload the software as it could either be a software issue or hardware (hard drive) issue. As far as a recommendation for future GPS purchases under $600, I'm bias towards Magellan's simply because I've worked on them before and know them. Although the 6000T is nice I do believe it is still above $600, but if I was to get one I'd go for the MRM800 or 860T. Hope this helps. -Daniel
