you may have a faulty needle valve or a broken float in the carburator. allowing the the bowl to over flow and run into the crankcase

Sounds like you may have blown out the alternator protection fuse by hooking the battery cables up backwards. How does one do that?? Check the large "MAXI" fuses in the Under hood fuse box near battery, this will be a large amperage fuse.
