First verify that you are using the proper speed of RAM. Second, check the BIOS and make sure that recognizes the RAM you have installed. Sometimes you have to manually set the RAM size in the BIOS in order to get it to work. Finally, I have had several issues with Kingston RAM on different motherboards even when it is the proper type so you would want to try a different manufacturer.

Xp freezes when usb hard drive pluged in

Hello here is the homepage:

http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=P5S800-VM&p=1&s=22

If any drivers is needed.

Try to enter the device manager, and look for faults.

It sounds like the USB ports, in the computer don't provide enough power.
Does the external HDD have its own Power supply ?
Do other USB devices work ?
Maybe the pc`s power supply is running out of power, when you connect the usb harddrive.
How much ram, do you have installed ?
I suggest at least 1 gb of ram, 2 gb is better.
What service pack have you installed ?
You need at least service pack 1, to support the usb function.

Try to run ccleaner:

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

And make a registry clean.

A final option could be upgradeing the bios.
If the above does not help.

You just have to be very carefull, when upgrading the bios.

If you don`t have any experience with that, let a expert do this for you.

Good luck

P5RD2-VM recognises only 2 GB

Hi,
According to Asus, the max supported memory is 2 gig. That second stick of 512 is not needed and the error shown is in memory configuration.

Intel ASUS P4 845 GL Motherboard

Hi, For an ASUS P4BGL-VM Intel 845GL Chipset Ultra ATA100 MATX CPU Type: Intel Pentium 4 478-Pin (OEM), the Asus site specifies max of 2 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 2GB PC2100 / PC1600 non-ECC DDR or SDRAM memory but not "and". Personally, I find it more practical to install 2 X 1Gb rather than a single 2Gb. Hope this gives you some idea. Kind regards.
