Turn off the sound recording. The camera will not let you use the optical zoom while recording sound so as not to record the sound of the lens zooming. See page 16 of this manual.
This was done intentionally by the camera manufacturers. I agree that it is not fair but the purpose of the movie mode is not to replace a video camera. It just allows you to take short movie clips. Depending on how long you have owned the camera you might be able to exchange it for a model that does allow audio capability in movie mode as Olympus does have other FE models that allow for this feature.
This is because the camera is not capable to record the sound. The camera was not designed with any audio speakers to be able to record and playback sound recorded during movie mode.
After selecting Quicktime Movie mode from the mode dial, you can begin recording by pressing the shutter button. Press the shutter button again to stop recording the movie.
