My understanding when we purchased our IN72 2 years ago is that there wasn't any additional benefit for Cable box using HDMI since the IN72 does not transmit audio so using component cables for cable was optimized enough. We have our DVD player connected via the HDMI only. Possibly the transmission from cable box through an HDMI is not compatible audio is confusing it? hard to say. Cable HD channels look awesome thru the compenent cables, the max for IN72 is 480i anyway.
We've got 35 ft cables for all 3 hdmi, compenent, and that vcr one too and it's worked great.
hi- before you send it to a repair shop pls try to remove all the devices that you attach to it and check if you are still going to get those light whites after awhile, or try using a different device in which it uses a different cable, did you attach a receiver as well from the tv to projector? try changing the cables as well. update me after you performed this steps, if it resolve it pls rate as fixya if not pls reply back. Thanks!!

the colorwheel is going bad and needs replacing. the colorwheel needs to spin fast enough to sync up with the dmd chip. if it cannot, the pic goes bad then off. the flashing is the colorwheel trying to catch up.
Hi,
My name is Todd and I'm a customer advocate at Dell's corporate headquarters. My team helps customers via blogs, forums, and other tech sites online.
You said the monitor is 2 years old. Do you have the original order number still? Depending on how you purchased the monitor it may have up to a 3 year manufacturer warranty and I may be able to replace it if it is within that warranty period.
Please email me at [email protected] if you can locate the order number and I'll be glad to see if its still under the manufacturer warranty. Include my first name (Todd) in the subject line of the email so it can quickly be routed through to me, and include the order or customer number if you have it.
Thank you,
Todd

If the Lamp condition is okay then check the FE lens just next to the lamp in the projector after removing the lamp out of prj. replace if that is burnt.otherwise replace Lamp.
