I have a new 4gb slim refurbished xbox 360 the powerbricks light is supposed to be orange and it is when i first plug it in but then i turn on my xbox and then it shuts off and the orange light turns into a solid red light what do i do

Sounds like the old brick cooked the Xbox somewhere when it allowed it to overheat. You'll need a replacement console or you could try baking the board but I don't recommend it if you haven't before.

The power cords for the Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 slim have different shaped plugs. If the plug you are using is not fitting it is likely that you have purchased the incorrect cord. If this is the case you will need to purchase a new cord.
When you purchase your new power cord make sure that it is designed for the original Xbox 360 NOT the Xbox 360 slim.

Sorry to be the bearer or bad news, but when an Xbox 360 goes bad it's never going to be the same again. I had fixed mine and it lasted me another two months until it happened again. After that, I was fixing it every week for three weeks till I got rid of it.
It may be "fixed" but it never lasts.

From what you have said it sounds like you have the RROD - 3 LIGHTS

The main causes are Hardware failure, overheating or wear & tear.

You may need to perform simple maintenance, clean or in some cases adjust settings.

move it to a new outlet if that dont work your powerbrick might be fried you can get them perty cheap just dont buy the used you might get one that is defetive

If the light on the power brick stays orange after turning the console on it means the brick is not properly functioning. You can attempt to clean the power brick with a can of air. Also make sure it has ventilation and is not sitting on carpet. This can cause the power brick itself to overheat and cause issues with it and the console itself. Also make sure your 360 is not plugger into a surge suppressor as this can cause issue due to double protection.
If possible, test the power brick on a different console, and test the console on a different power brick. This will narrow down your problem area.

try difrent powerbrick and take the extra fan out

i think that means that the connection between the power brick and the xbox isnt working, either your xbox needs repair or you need a new power brick, ask a friend with a 360 if you can borrow theirs and also their wires for the powerbrick and if it works then YOU need a new powerbrick and if it doesnt then your xbox is broken

It is the power brick. If you are under warranty you can have microsoft send you a new one for free, otherwise a new powerbrick is around 80 dollars.

Duke, take a look at the big 'powerbrick' that powers your xbox, on the front of it there will be a small LED, it should be red/orange if your xbox is turned off. If you see NO LED light then your powerbrick is no longer functioning.

If you DO see a LED, then its likley the Xbox is at fault.
