Yes, sound is recorded in the movie mode. You can also record sound during or after shooting a still picture. Sound playback is not possible directly through the camera.

The sound wont work on my camera

Most cameras from 2004 did not include sound on the video feature.

What does your user manual say?

From my little research using Yahoo Search, I have found that your camera does have a built-in speaker, but no mention of a microphone

NOTE: Movie and Sound Recording Modes"
The C-770's Movie mode is accessible via the Mode dial on top of the camera (marked with a small movie camera symbol). Once in Movie mode, you can record QuickTime or MPEG4 movies with or without sound.

So there you have it. You have to tell the camera you want it to record sound or not and that is going to be located in the user manual.

Video

Lizzie,

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure that you had the camera set to the video recording mode? Several of the Canon digital PowerShots will show the movie icon on the LCD screen even when the camera is in image record mode. Why, I don't know. Ensure that you set the camera into movie mode by pressing your Func/Set button to go into the Function Menu and then selecting the movie mode that you want to shoot in. Press the Func/Set button again to get out of the Function Menu and you will not only see a movie camera icon on the LCD screen, but also a set of numbers in the bottom left hand corner representing the recording resolution (e.g. 640 pixels) and the frames per second (e.g. 30).

And just in case you did have the camera set in movie mode, make sure that you don't do what many people have inadvertantly done and mistake the video clip for a .jpg image in the playback screen. Videos will of course have the movie camera icon in the upper corner of the image and are viewed by pressing the Set button twice to begin the playback.

If both of these steps were performed properly then your camera may have a hardware issue. As a last resort, try performing a reset from within the menu just to be on the safe side and see if it makes a difference. If not you may need service. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

Lens is not opening in the movie mode, unable to record movie also.

normally there are two possible causes for the problem, 1) the connectors of the rotary switch are dirty or not making proper contact. 2) the cable from the rotary switch is damaged. In both the cases you have to get the swith changed.

Where is the Reference Manual for the D-390? The Reference Manual is located on the Camedia Master CD-ROM and is available in four languages (English, French, Spanish, and German. The manual can be viewed on your computer screen or printed on your printer. How can I get traditional photo prints from my digital camera? Most photo processing centers or digital printing Kiosks can make traditional photo prints from a digital camera. There are also many on-line photo processors which conveniently deliver prints by mail. You can also make prints yourself if you have a photo quality printer like the Olympus P-400 printer. Why are there so many quality settings? Different quality settings are used for different purposes; for example, lower quality settings can be used to e-mail pictures because of its small file size. Higher quality settings are used for printing photo quality images. What settings should I use to get the best picture quality? The best picture quality setting on the D-390 is SHQ (Super High Quality). The SHQ file is the largest of all four quality settings. The image file size is approximately 786K. What is the video output used for? The video output is used for viewing images from your camera to a TV. A slideshow can be accomplished by using the camera hooked to the TV or recorded from a VCR. When taking macro images, can I use the viewfinder? Since the viewfinder sees the subject different than the picture taking lens, we recommend using the LCD monitor screen for taking macro pictures. The image previewed on the LCD monitor will be the exact image that is taken. How do I make a Panorama picture? You can easily make panorama pictures with your D-390 by “stitching” together multiple pictures. First, activate the panorama mode on the camera by selecting Mode Menu - Camera - Panorama. Take your pictures while making sure to overlap the edges of the images. Download your pictures to a computer and then use the “Panorama” function in Camedia Master to stitch them together. For more detailed information, please refer to the camera documentation. What is movie mode function? The movie mode function allows you to record short movie clips. The recorded movies can be played back or stored as still images using the cameras index function. Please note that the D-390 does not record sound in the movie mode. Can I add sound to a movie made with my D-390? The D-390 does not record sound in the movie mode. What is the best way to e-mail images? E-mailing pictures that were taken with your camera is as easy as attaching a file to your message.
