I'm trying to print some business cards on my hp 1350 all in one printer....the problem is when I print out my test page on a plain sheet of paper and hold it up to the business cards it's fine, but when I put the business cards in there to print it starts printing at the very top of the page and then the alignment is all off. Just wondering if you had any suggestions. Thanks

Load 8.5 x 11-in. plain inkjet paper in the paper tray.
Do the following steps depending on the printer:
ON 5100:
1. Press and hold Quantity + Copy.
ON 5300 or 5500:
1. Press the Menu button.
2. Scroll down to PrintDiagnostic Sheet.
3. Press OK.
4. Press Start.
Wait for the test page to print.
After printing the sheet needs to be loaded into the scanner and then you press the button as shown on the sheet to complete the alignment process. Once the alignment completes it will not print another alignment page untiol the next time a cartridge is replaced.
This is normally set through the page margins within the software you are using not the actual printer settings. MS Word has templates for various Avery labels, but I've found after loading the template you have to fine tune the margins for your printer. Use plain paper to print test pages and hold them over your card stock to check alignment.
I had this problem today and think I've figured it out. Take a sheet of plain paper and two little pieces ot clear 'scotch' tape. Tape the blank sheet behind the business cards at the top/feeder edge and try again. You may need to tweak it a bit more but it stops it from printing so far up.
I just had the same problem after putting in a new black cart. Try this:
Open HP Director
On the main window select Settings>Print Settings>Printer Toolbox
Open the Configuration Tab
At bottom right click "Factory Settings" button then "Apply"
A configuration warning popped up explaining that 'd be changing settings used by the driver. I clicked ok. AOK. (I did do an alignment just before this, but it's probably not required to fix the prob.
I am the guy with the hp d'jet D2445. I ran out of card stock in failed attempts. Not wanting to give up I bought more (Avery, no serrations) and it worked fine. Don't ask why.
