Kenmore top loader 70 series Mod # 110.24722300

My washer will not drain. It goes though all of its cycles including spinning with no apparent problem except in does not drain. I checked the pump and found a bra cup stuck in it. I have removed the obstruction and still the washer does not drain. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your advice. You were absolutly correct about the pump it was rounded out and probly because of the obstruction not allowing it to spin. The washer is running great again and putting small items in a laundry bag is a good idea. Will have to mention it to my wife. Thanxs again.

Does the washer go through the spin cycle? Or, does it stop just before the spin cycle and fail to continue, leaving you with a full tub of water? If this is the case, this problem is often caused by a lid switch malfunction. If you determine you have a lid switch problem, parts are available at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and locate item number 11 (part #3949238) under the "Top and Cabinet Heading" If you need instructions on how to replace it, let me know. I'm assuming you don't have a lid switch problem at this point because you said the washer was spinning just fone. However, I thought I would mention it because it can exhibit similar symptoms. So, just in case...

Since you mentioned you found an part of a bra lodged in the pump, it may have damaged it to where it no longer works. I also understand the washer goes through all its cycles and spins properly, right? If so...looks like a possible drain pump problem. The pumps on these model washers are sealed units and do not come apart to service. I would consider purchasing and replacing the pump. You can find a replacement pump at the same website. Look for item number 22 (part #3363394) under the Brake/Clutch/Gearcase/Motor/Pump heading. For a cost comparison, you may also check repairclinic.com. They sometimes carry the same parts for less. If you need instructions on how to replace the pump, click on the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397094-replacing_water_pump

I only provide the link as a courtesy. Since you've apparently taken the washer apart, I'm assuming you may already know how to replace the pump. Still, if you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS Sometimes this mounting slot on the back of the pump where the drive motor shaft inserts can round out causing the pump to slip instead of rotating. In addtion, bras are bad news for washing machines. For future reference, it is recommended to place small articles in garment bags prior to washing.

Kenmore 70 Series Washer

The lid switch is bad . You can either replace it , or bypass it under the control panel . Try putting a pencil down into the hole on the top where the lid actuator goes into to see if it drains and spins .

Kenmore 80's series top loader only works on wash and rinse cycle

This is a problem with the pump being stuck so the motor cant turn the whole thing. Turn the washer on its side, underneath you can acces the pump, which is connected to the motor by two long clips. remove the pump and take out the colg that caused it to get stuck.

Kenmore 70 series top loader - wouldn't drain & spin

The lid switch is the only thing affecting this part of the cycle. The new switch comes with the new plug (under console ) and the harness that goes to the switch. The console will flip up and the cabinet will pull forward after removing 2 brass looking clips. After that it's right there under the right side of the upper cabinet.

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......
