Your computer is just going to sleep from what it sounds like.

Just get into the monitor/power saving/screen saver settings and make it so the monitor has a longer relay to shut down when there is no mouse/keyboard movement.

My monitor slows down

Sounds like an issue with you PC not the monitor.

Try updating your display/graphics card drivers.

Just today when watching a movie my monitor will go blank and the light at the bottom which is white when on will go dark and then turn orange like it's been turned off then about 20-30 seconds later it...

When the power saving options of the computer is turned on, after particular time the signal stops to the monitor and the orange light will come on, once you move the mouse or press keys on the keyboard, the cpu comes back from the power saving mode, the signal passes on to the monitor and there will be display.

HP G71 Notebook PC - during a movie, screen keeps going black

Go to the control panel > Power Options > Select a Power Plan, look in the middle for Additional Plans, click on that and choose High Performance. Now, look in the left hand pane and click on "Choose when to turn off the display", make sure they all say never. Click on "Save Changes" and exit out of the page.

Monitor goes blank after about 30 minutes. Then you can shut it off and turn it back on and it will work for another 30 minutes or so. What could cause this?

check your power settings (run>control>power options>change plan settings>advanced options>display)
you will see the setting for your monitor to power off
it should be set to 2 hrs or more if you plan on watching a movie or keeping the monitor on without having to frequently touch the keyboard or mouse.
turning adaptive display on may affect your situation as well. try switching it on.

This should do the trick for you. If not you may have an issue with either your video card or your monitors power supply.
(if the light stays on on the monitor when it goes blank but it doesnt repsond to the mouse or the keyboard, its a setting on your system or the hardware itself)
Good Luck!!

Monitor picture turns on its side when it goes to screensaver

Sounds like your screensaver is using a picture of your desktop in it's code intentionally.

Right click on a blank area of your desktop --> select properties

--> click screensaver --> change it to "none" or another screensaver

What are you using to connect to the monitor? Have you tried replacing the cable, sometimes cheaper HDMI cables can cause this issue
